Can anyone tell me how the front steering knuckles recieve lubrication? Is it supplied from the front differential?
Thx

Negative on the gear oil. Upon assembly the knuckle and birfield joint are packed with grease.

Is there any kind of maintenance that I need to do on them? I'm not seeing any grease zerks or anything. It does look like there's still lubrication in there as the knuckles have grease on them.
Thanks for the help.

I believe that every 60-70,000 miles or so you need to take the knuckle apart and repack the bearings and replace the seals. Mind you I have only seen a couple actually have this done, and most of the time it was because the front end needed to be rebuilt anyway because of the infamous death wobble that normally happens on a wore out front end about 35-40 mph. You can buy a complete front knuckle rebuild kit from Brent at www.trailtough.com. for about $200.00 plus shipping. It has wheel bearings, trunion bearings, and all the paper-rubber-and felt seals related to the whole mess.

Plz go into a bit more detail on this "infamous death wobble"...

I would recommend a repack at least as often as the afore mentioned 60-70k, otherwise, well idaho put it best...

Actually, the knuckles are lubricated with gear oil.But only
when the inner shaft seals are shot. ;D

Im not to sure about that but my geuss is the wheel bearings. Allmost ever samurai ive ownd has sloppy ones. Just jack the front end up and grab the tires at 12;00 and 6;00. if you got play tightin them. allso check the stearing box. the little screw does the addustment

It may be also due to knuckle bearing. Failure indication is when gear oil start to leak from the knuckle. It is then time to rebuilt with new bearing and grease. When knuckle bearing fail, the knuckle is loose and sit higher, forcing the half shaft to be higher and oil to leak past the seal on the bottom of half shaft.

rebuilding knuckles is a bunch of fun!
