Hey guys I finally got my lockrite ::) just wanted to know any tricks to the install. I ordered it w/ out the side gears ,not much in the box but it looks pretty simple. Any tips would be helpful ;D

Be meticulous, keep all the parts in their
origional places, and follow the instructions
to the T and you should be fine.

yes ,spot on.read the instructions twice,and then follow them to the letter.i have fitted several now and not had any problems.follow the instructions stage by stage as you do the job.it really is a good install manual in my opinion.
check the feel of the backlash before you start and make sure it feels the same when you finish and you wont go far wrong.

just curious, where did you get them and for how much? AND would someone please explain 'backlash' and all that it intails? cause i will be doing this in about 2-3 months. thanks.

Make sure and check the gear contact pattern before you take it apart (I'm not sure if that is the technical term, but put the blue looking grease on the gears and rotate them to observe the contact pattern). This way you can compare the pattern before and after. You can count the turns and mark the carrier bearing caps, but it seams that it doesn’t go back together exactly the same. That is why you also want to check the backlash prior to disassembly.

Yes, Gear Contact Pattern is the right term,
but this does not change unless you are changing
the Ring & Pinion gears too. Contact Pattern is
changed by the depth of the Pinion.
Back Lash is the distance, measured in Thousanths
of an inch or mm that the ring gear turns (moves)
while the pinion is held still, it should be around .008
of an inch (eight thousanths of an inch) and is measured
with a Mag Base Dial Indicator.
This is changed by rotating the ring that has the holes in it,
just make sure you loosen or snug both rings evenly, and
that they are tightened to keep the slop out of the bearings.

When I installed my lock rite it was the first time I had ever torn down a diff. I followed the directions in the box and everything worked great. When I got my new gears (years later). I had in installer check the install I had done and he said that everything was done fine. Just pay close attention to every detail of the instructions and it will go back together fine.

PS If you dont have a vice bigh enough to hold the 3rd member, get one. I will make it ALOT easier to do.

what are theis lockers you speak of?  are they made my lincon? ;D ;D ;D

;DWell thanks guys I installed it this morning. ;D No prob. I did use a dial ind. mine had 10 thou. I set it back up w/ the same. It seems to work just fine on the road, so this sat. I'll see in the dirt.
