Title: Clunk And Wet Transfer Case !
Post by: Hiskid1973 on May 21, 2010, 01:55:16 AM
Ello all....Been noticing a clunk when letting off gas or shifting into dr/rev....Truck did well
getting my wife  to work this winter...Finally nice temps to crawl under so yesterday I put it on the
ramps expecting a bad u-joint..Under there it seemed it was coming from the transfer case...Also the
transfer case was wet and a drop on the bottom of skid plate but doesn,t leak on garage floor..
Any ideas on what's up ?       Thanks for any help...God Bless you...Hk

Also anyone know where to get or have installed this Tracker part ? They see it at the older parts warehouse for $400.

Hk,
My innital thought was the U-Joint too... Did you still check the U-Joints for movement? Drive shaft noise can resonate to the Case and/or rear axle.

How is your fluid level in the T-Case? You may want to drain the T-Case fluid and check for excessive metal fragments on the drain plug magnet  :-\

If you post up your location, we will have a better idea on suggestions for installers in your area...

Hey Zig, I'm in the Hershey PA area..The uj's are solid...The movement is in the t-case and rear diff.
Noise seems to come from center of truck...thanks.

A drop or two from the tcase is nothing to worry about, but I agree with Zukipilot, drain that tcase and take a good look at what comes out and what's left on the magnet.
