I have a 87 Samurai with a 91 sidekick 1.6 L engine. I have been having problems with either my head gasket seeping in antifreeze or my cylinder head is cracked. Im now looking at finding a compatible engine that can swap in without any change in harnesses or exhaust. Even an intake that would mount to the older engine im just looking for other options than throwing endless amount of money into an old engine rather than just start fresh
would really appreciate some feed back
thanks

If you have a 91 then you should have the 8 valve engine.
89-94 2 door Tracker.
91-93 4 Door Tracker (I believe).
Any Tracker or Sidekick with the 8 valve should be a direct swap. :)

yeah its an 8 valve sohc
what i also needed to know is whether i can take a carborated intake manifold and bolt it on to a fuel injected cylinder head
or will i need a new head to make it a carborated
i dont want to go through the process of putting in a computer
thanks for the reply

As long as it is an 8 valve it will bolt right in with your existing setup. The only real change I have seen so far on the 8 valve engines has been on the intake, and your swapping that out with yours anyway.
The 16 valve engines have different hardware.

but that intake manifold is good to bolt right up even if the new engine is fuel injected?
sorry for all the questions i just want to make sure i got everything right
-
Yes, your good to go. The 8 Valve shares the intake and exhaust manifold bolt ups with the 1.3 L engine. Your intake is probably off of a 1.3.
The 16V though has a different bolt up and can't be swapped.

wicked man i really appreciate it

You will need an electric fuel pump, the injected head doesn't have
mechanical fuel pump location.

Was there a 1.6L Carb version in the US? I thought the carb was only available with the 1.3L.
