When you can get everything you need, pre-designed and tested for $150... the design, materials, fabrication and testing would not be worth the effort to me...

The thread descibes how to fit the 1.6 without an adapter. Easiest method is to drill through for the bottom mounts, no design, fab or testing required. I haven't done it personally but I used to wheel with Breedsey so I've seen the conversion, its very tidy, could pass for stock.

Call me lazy, but I have enough trouble keeping my Samurai running properly without worrying about problems created by attempting to fit a 1.6 onto a Samurai transmission bellhousing without an adapter plate.
I have an Calmini plate from way back in 2000 - which might not be as good as the full-circle plates available these days - but it gets the job done.
At $150, that adds up (conservatively) to seven 4-hour days of tips from delivering pizza part time... ;)
