Title: coolant leak from rear of motor.
Post by: jump454 on May 31, 2010, 07:23:55 PM
I'm buying a 1995 sidekick jlx on Wednesday. its leaking coolant from the rear of the motor somewhere. it runs like a champ so i don't think its a head gasket. i read somewhere else it could be the heater hoses or the fitting that comes off the back of the head? but i cant seem to find a part number for that piece or fitting. anybody have it or any other ideas of what it could be? come Wednesday ill figure it out for sure but til then im just trying to find as much info as possible about it so i can get wheeling as soon as possible.  ;D thank you for everyone's help.

There are two hoses behind the block, they are listed as the heater outlet and heater inlet.  Autozone has them if you do a search for heater hose.

You should be able to reach around behind the block and see if they are soft.  Sometimes oil gets on them and weakens them up.  If you have a bad water pump it can allow steam into the lines, that helps break the older hoses.   I would plan on putting a new timing belt and water pump in it just in case.
