So how hard is it too change over? I'm thinking of building another trakick but 2wd's are alot cheeper. I would use the anvil ft. end my transfer case.

Well, One of my friends did the swap. Well actually it was an X-90. He used all Kick stuff though as they share the exact same driveline components.

i wouldn't think it would be hard at all. as long as you get a WHOLE parts tracker. peaceing stuff together would make this alot harder.

Just did it. Took all the parts from the wife's '89 and put 'em on a '94. Everything was bolt in except the shifter hole for the transfer case was a different size, may have been the year difference. Also, the drivers side front diff hanger was not on the 2WD frame for some reason ??? Just had to torch it off the frame and weld it to the '94.

Hi-- new here. I am starting to gather parts and knowledge to do a VW TDI into a 4x4, 2-dr hardtop Sidekick or Tracker (actually, I've seen a couple Trackers like that, but never a Sidekick...).
Locally, there is a 2WD X-90 for what looks like a good price. That would actually make a pretty cool project, but I have no use for 2WD in Colorado. There seem to be plentiful Sidekicks and Trackers around for parts now, so I should be able to round up all the xfer case, shafts, parts, etc. for not a lot. I don't have a decent shop at the moment, but I think I should have the necessary mechanic's skills to do the conversion, as long as it doesn't involve much cutting or fabrication. Does anyone have a list of parts I need, or (better yet) a link to a "how to" thread?

Edit to add: The X90 in question is a '96. What year range of donor 4x4s should I be looking at? (1989-1998?) Thx, L.

everything should fit from a tracker/sidekick. if i recall, the 2WD cars didnt have one of the front diff mounts welded on. i'd check on that b4 you go to the wrecking yard.

The only welding that may need to be done is the drivers side drop bracket on the frame.
The only modding that may need to be done is the shifter boot/boot hole. They are slightly different sized, depending on the year. You don't really need to modify the hole....just make sure the hole is sealed up good, if you end up using the smaller/shorter shifter boot.
