Title: stock 87 sammy need major help
Post by: chancepeeler on June 02, 2010, 10:40:01 AM
I have a 87 samurai that has the stock 1.3 and i want to put a bigger motor and a lift on it. I love my sammy and want to fix it up on a budget while making sure it is in good running shape. I live in texas and cant find a single person to work on my samurai. I want a bigger motor but i am very mechanically slow and dont know how to work on them. Any Ideas??

Cheapest way id say do a SPOA, you can fab your own stuff or buy a kit,  Low Range is who id talk to, tell em your financial situation and they will work with you on what you can afford.  How big are you thinkin you wanna go with tires and lift?  Anything much bigger than stock tires and you'll need to regear the T-case.

If you want a bigger engine, its up to you.  most ppl do the trackick 1.6 swap bc its the easiest and you get about 30% power gain.

whats your goal?  44s and a small block 350?  33s?  honestly the sky is the limit and chances are someone on here has done atleast what you wanna do before or could help direct you

I found that when I added a 1.6 8 valve TBI to my 1.3 it woke it up good. MPG went from 18 up to 27. And mine has well over your miles. I found a guy on ebay that didn't know what he had. I bought both intakes complete with the TBI and air inlet pipe, plus the whole engine harness(only for 1) and it only cost me 150. for intakes and another 200.00 to have the harness modified for a stand alone system. Works great, still have the second complete intake sitting on the shelf.

Sure You'd still need a harness made, but everything else is here.

TBI the injector (1) is in the throttle body. FI could be either TBI or Multi port, not knowing which one you are referring too.
