I recently bought an '88 Samurai, knowing that the wipers didn't work, and thinking that it would be an easy task to fix. However, I'm having quite a difficult time locating the wiper motor and/or the relay switch that controls them. Can anyone tell me what the best way to troubleshoot an issue like this, or direct me to a website? Any help would be much appreciated.

I have a feeling the motor for them is SOMEWHERE under the dash, unlike 90% of vehicles where its somewhere under the hood.

The wiper motor is located under the right side of the dash. The easiest way to get to it is to remove the windshield frame, as the motor is connected by brackets to the winshield frame.
You should see a clip on piece at the top right corner of the dashboard (over the glovebox door). Pop that off and you will see the wiper motor.

There isn't a separate relay. It's built in the motor.

Yea, it has 3 or 4 wires on it. One is for ground, one for each of the speed options. You should be able to hit it with 12v and make sure that it is working properly. On mine the wires running to the controller were broken, I just soldered new ends on and it has worked fine since.

Ill asume you checked the fuses ? under the dash . i went mudding the other day, hit a deep hole filled with muddy water and to my surprised they didnt work after trying to use the washers, washer pump blew my wiper fuse, good thing I had 2 shirts on.
