Title: Talk to HAWK made my mind on my motor
Post by: JDMCRX on June 28, 2004, 01:48:40 PM
Ok here is my plan

take the stock 1.6 8valve out

Bore it .050mm over new pistons and rings and bearings  and all new seals oil pump.

The head do a mild port and polish 3 angle valve job.
.20th off the head to raise the comp. Hawks cam or the calmini not sure yet. Rocky road cam gear and crank pulley.

The throtle body took it apart my guy that ports all the parts for my turbod honda is going to bore it out  4mm. The boss around the injector will be ported out alot to flow more air. Also thinking of spacing the housing say 1/4" for better fuel addimisation.

Ingniton some better wires MSD 8.8 and CRANE coil.

I have a header exhaust and a snorkel on order. Im going to drive it for 1000km then go strap it on the local dyno and do some fuel addjustments via fuel pressure also see if i can move the power band around with the cam gear.

i dunno ill post a whole write up on it and also alot of dyno graphs

Sounds like fun times ahead.  I'll be looking forward to progress reports :)

don't forget a timing cover with that cool peace that comes out to play with the cam sprocket.

The timing cover i have now is junk im going to cut it open for the dyno then get a new one for the street and trails

300 RWHP in a Honda, heavy task, and only
if you turbo it, problem is that much HP is too
race like, street driving that kind of motor will
kinda suck, unless you really like shifting and
racing on the street.

See http://www.toyotaperformance.com/400_hp.htm
and read up some about high output
street engines, you might change your
goal to a more drivable combination, unless
of coarse you are building a Honda racer
then by all means, build away

My honda D16Y8 made 265 at 12psi street driven not one prob yet just waiting for my 880cc injectors.

The sidekick i was going to turbo but i want reliable truck. ;D

Nice buildup pics, I wonder about your 9.5
CR, little high, unless you lowered the CR
and just used the 9.5 Weisco pistons, I
would say you did a fair bit more than the
Turbo Kick build, I'm all stock exept the
SS Exhaust Valves and a Cam, I find ping
a little troublesome on 87 fuel, what do you
use to prevent ping at 12 boost, Water injection
or high Octane gas ??

I have to say also the article was targeted at
a 400 HP Honda, not 300, I though you might
be able to use some info found there to help
you obtaine your 300 goal and keep that motor
alive in the process.

Point of interest is the GMC Syclone that boosted
to 15 PSI used a CR of 8.35:1      I want to go to
some low CR pistons like 7.5 or 8 to 1 CR and pump
the boost to 12-14 and see what I can get from a Kick
Motor.

I also noticed you are running a 16V head, much better
for the flow, plus it's ported for increased flow.

My What a big Turbo you have  :o

Thanks man

Im using 91 octane u just have to tune the ingition timing conservitve. I never  gat any detination.

When u tune start with less timing then work ur way up another thing is colder plugs help alot for missfires.

Yeah the car is fast ran my friends Modded Z06 from a 100km roll and at 210km he was 2 cars ahead.

Thanks tho

Im debating now which cam to use Hawk said there cam is better for low end torque and the Calmini is good for midrange i dunno what i want.

.20th off the head to raise the comp.

when i did all my stuff i was ganna do this too, but my guy told me there would be no big advantage and that because the of the way the crank and cam pullies are right over each other it could cause timing problems...? :-/

.020  cause a timing problem, I don't think so,
you could turn the cam 1 tooth and you would
hardly feel any if any difference.

On a different note, I got the head off the 16V
motor and the Combustion Chamber is smaller
than the 8V motor, by about 5 cc, so the compression
will be higher with the 16V head, than with the 8V,
so pistons need to be modified to lower the CR with
a 16V head.

The block on the 1.3 motor is also about 1 1/8" shorter
than the 1.6 motor, so a 1.6 engine is a tighter fit in the
Sammy.
