I would have them welded around the whole axle. Just peace of mind thing for me, especially if your planning to wheel it. As for the street legal you shouldnt have problems unless your to high (which unless your running 35-38's wont happen.) and as long as you have bumpers you should be fine.

I don't have spoa but I have heard that you dont want to weld all the way around as it weakens the axel housing. Have heard of some guys just tightrening the u bolts way up but a few stitches of weld would be better. The u bolts are doing the most holding anyway.

over 4" will 'require' stability test. Any SPOA is 4 inches+
properly welded perches are not the issue.
Stability, headlight and bumper height, as well as general vehicle safety will be inspected.
hint= take it to where you buy gas and pay them to do inspect w/sticker.
State inspect = Pandora's box.

yea im sure if i went to the DMV with the sammy they would have a field day. so i will go to my local getty and get it inspected. we have an acount there at work and i no a few of the guys in the shop so it shuldent be an issue. as for the welds on the perches ive herd the same thing dont weld all the way around the axle dont even weld them to the axle due to the gear oil and the axle warping.thats why i dident weld tem all the way around. i no its not an issue for the inspection but as the guys said befor peace of mind. i did it to the back axle. i took it to a mecanic friend and he welded the rear axle said no issues with it so i trusted him looks alot stronger than the front.
