Title: Powerfest 2011 venue ideas.
Post by: ebewley on July 22, 2010, 08:18:04 AM
Other than the Tillamook State Forest Brown's camp area and OHV park, where do you think would be a good place to hold our event?

Something maybe a little different - Florence / Winchester Bay Oregon... Just throwing that out there.

Yeah... a dune adventure could be pretty fun... plus plenty of space to hang out and watch people do fun/silly things..

There's a place in Harrisburg which is just North of Junction City on 99E that puts on events. I spoken with the owner and it seems pretty interesting. Has anyone been there during one of their events? Any information?

Johnson Valley CA...
has mild to wild rocks..sand dunes.... dry lake beds...desert race courses and you can do pretty much whatever you want..
It's BLM land so I think it's pretty much free...Dry camping though, no facilities.. but we could probably get a shit house or two.

Moving the event down to California sounds fun, but I think it may exclude some of the participants from Washington. There are a lot of wheeler's in the central part of WA, and Seattle that make the 6 hr trip to TSF. I don't know how many would be willing to add extra hours to that

I would not be opposed to the Naches Trail, funny rocks area. There is ton or room, it is central located and there are developed areas (water restrooms etc.)with little to no fee required.

The trail system is larger and varies from very technical trails all the away down to beginner with a stock vehicle. You can go from running mud, to difficult rocks, then right on over to a easy trail ride.

I will volunteer myself for whatever is needed most, from a camp host all the way to trail guide. if the event is held close I can count on at least two more mature adults as well.

They hold the NAXJA meet up there yearly and there's plenty of room and fun for all.

The Naches area is a good one, I've run events out of that area before and have had success. The overflow camping area at Cow Camp is great! That is a good idea...

I was also thinking about the rock crawling park close to Goldendale.

The dunes would be a good place for a summer powerfest. Not so much fall.

Are you thinking Florence or Christmas Valley, or California?

Ive been in contact with Cystal down there at the Harrisburg Motorsports complex, they said they would be more than welcome to have us there and hold some sort of event. There's plenty of camping and some pretty serious obstacles.

I suggest the Naches area.  There is a local gas station/general store.  There is a close hotel and plenty of camping at crow creek, plus the open meadow/camping area would make a nice area for some kind of activities.  Plenty of trails for all skill levels.

Maybe in late aAugust or in Sept. for a time frame.

Yep, these are all great suggestions. I've held events similar to that there and it went well. This would be a definite possibility.

I think the NW Mogfest location would be GREAT!  (private property near Sheridan, Oregon)

Florence Oregon dunes could also be really fun.

I think a rotating location would be neat... different place each year!   ;)

Hey Eric! It's been a long time since I have been on the forum.

Don't forget about the Whipsaw trip up here in BC. Would love to be trail leader!

X2 for Christmas Valley. There is a big event on private property there this Memorial Day, its advertised in Craigslist. Sky is going over there for something Memorial day, I know a bunch of people run Schwartz Canyon every memorial day too.
Also I saw pics of NW Mogfest, and it looked cool, but I didn't see anything challenging there.
Dunes? I live in Eugene. The dunes get old.

Funny you should mention that... I'm working with the land owner to get a weekend for us at their property.  It's going to be epic!

Hi Jay - Yes, something is going to happen. Still in the planning stages... The first heads up will be a solicitation for volunteers, next will be an anouncement, after that we wheel!

Yeah, we wheel!

Do you have a group of Suzuki enthusiasts? If so, let's make an event in So. Cal! :) There used to be the "big bear bash" but I'm not sure if they're still doing that or not. Try googlin' for that.
