I have a 1992 Sidekick with a 16 valve 4 cylinder. The biggest problem with this is the engine was put into the sidekick and I was told it only has 40-50K miles. I have no idea what year the engine is or where it came from. The guy I bought it from had it installed by local mechanics who I know and they knew it had a high idle but could not fix the problem. On a cold start it idles fine, once it warms up the idle ramps to about 1900-2000 RPMS and then starts surging from 1900 to 1200 up and down. Can anyone please tell me were to start to correct the problem. Thanks

Sounds like there is a vacuum leak once it warms up. A vacuum leak will cause high/low/high/low idle.
It also could be a faulty sensor causing it. I would start checking all the sensors to see if they test out good.
The following site has pretty good testing and troubleshooting info in it....

I would look at the throttle position sensor too!

Have you checked out the EGR?

mine does it when its cold then fine once warm what could cause that?

On an 8V engine it's the wax plug in the throttle body, but on a 16V
I'm not sure
