Looks good!  Did you have to do any fender trimming to fit the 31" tires with just the GV front springs?
Title: Re: Introduction - Show us your Sidekick, Vitara, or Tracker!
Post by: mike5721947 on September 17, 2010, 01:28:11 PM
no fender trimming. they rub the frame at full lock pretty good, but take not even a 1/16th of a turn out of the steering and no rub (its on my to do list to adjust my steering stops)

I AM RUNNING STOCK RIMS WITH NO SPACER. with that i have 1/2 inch on the rear of the fender while turning and it rubs the inner fender slightly (bit of tweeking and it will clear perfect.

pic of it compared to a stock kick running 205's

Hi everyone :),

I just bought my first 89 Geo Tracker, Auto, 2Dr, 2" Body/2" Susp, 29s (but have 31s to go on soon), has 98 running gear and EFI engine, 2 cup holders and lighter (lol), Soft Top (but I want to get the hard top for it).

We replaced the front headlights and grill and moved the 2 ights from the bumper to the top of the hood, did the rear brakes (there was nothing left of them when I got it), tune-up and removed the front sway bar.

My husband had one but he sold it for a XJ Jeep..so I went out and got my own to drive (lol).

I have a list of To Do's for it but I'm excited to start building my own first rock crawler and run circles around my husbands (lol).

I've enjoyed looking at all of yours on here.

Not sure who makes it, the previous owner had bought it. I seen it advertised somewheres, just cant remember at the moment. IIRC it is called a brushguard w/light mounts. It is constructed just like the cheap nerf bars the parents bought at Cabelas for my Silverado, they are liberal college educated so common sense is null and void.

I took a rusty 95 Tracker with a good motor, and swapped everything into a 90 Sidekick I picked up from Virginia.  Paint by the end of the summer is desperately needed.

Hey y'all.
The name is John, I live in SE WI just north of the IL border.  I have a 95 Kicker 4x4, 1.6L 16v.  I was at a mudding event a month ago and people laughed when I first pulled up, she's completely stock right now.  They weren't laughing after my first pass, I made a total of 20 passes in holes that the guys with big trucks and jeeps with MTs were getting stuck in.
My plan is to go with a Tonka truck theme.  It will be a progressive lift and build as money is tight right now, first thing I have to do is figure out the brake issue that has been eluding me for a full year already.

Going down?  How about an X-90?  My build is a little backwards from the off-roaders here but I'll show it anyways.  It's getting lowered more but here it is now with about ~2" of drop and 215/50-17s on Mazda rims with 5.5 to 4.5 wheel adaptors.

Build plan.
-'07 GV single mode tcase (full-time AWD)
-'07 GV 5-speed
-'02 2.5L v6
-4.30 gears if I can find them
-Wiseco (Focus SVT) pistons
-BMW E36 H-beam rods
-Garret T3/T4 turbo
-AEM FIC piggy on the '02 2.5L ECU

Calculated 0-60 3.38sec.  Calculated 1/4mi 11.6sec  (2700lbs 400 crank HP)

Title: My 89 Suzuki Sidekick 4x4
Post by: 89SuzSK4x4 on October 08, 2011, 06:32:09 PM
I am new to the forums and a new owner of a 89 Suzuki Sidekick jx 5spd. Story behind it is my grandfather owned it and painted it John Deere Green, then my dad owned her and he just recently gave it to me, When my dad got it it was missing back seats, soft top, etc So he customized it a bit lol he enclosied the front cab and put a board over back and made a trunk. I am currently redoing it the way he did but he used mainly all wood and it rotted/warped over time.

Current upgrades: Custom soft top delete, A/C delete, 235 75 15's instead of stock 205's. John Deere green paint job.
Future Mods: New tires, New paint, New grille, new door handles(inside), Rugged Edge Hubs, etc.

Pics below

This first pic is when my dad owned it we were on a fishing trip

I just got this tracker a couple weeks ago...Trying to get everything lined out first then I plan to lift it, better wheels and tires then put a decent sound system in it...Yes, I did the redneck artwork on it I figured it was better than riding with primer spots all over it plus I kinda like it .... Signed WV redneck lol :-)

Just purchased this 1996 Geo Tracker, 100%stock except 215/75/15 's, fiberglass top. No rust seen so far, however as you can see hood suffered from 15 years in Arizona oven. Plan on lifting 2" for 235's and front bumper with brush guard and Tow points.  Primary use will be to pull behind my Provan 4x4 Tiger camper for off road access.

very nice rides you guys have...cant wait to find one already

does the 5.62 gears really make a difference? its another $1000 to get them so is it worth it?

and anyone know the width and rim size of the km2's on the sidekick?
Title: Re: Introduction - Show us your Sidekick, Vitara, or Tracker!

Thanks for the compliments. I actually dont have the km2s anymore since i needed cash and I just got some 31x10.50x15 goodyear allterrain cheapos from discount tire. If this is going to see mainly street I wouldnt spend the money on km2s but stick with alittle cheaper tire. The wheels are 15x8 with 4" backspace but im going to be switching them out for a more ideal wheel with 2" or 2.5" backspace.  On the 5.62 gears I think they are worth it as the precious owner put them in. Really justin if you were to look for some 5.62 gears I would try to find an 89 sidekick with a 1.3L motor for cheap and pull the gears out for yourself and then part out the rig to help pay for the $1000 or so spent on buying it then it would be better cost effective.
With the 5.62's and 31" tire my speedometer is right on and I dont have to have a gps on my dash to tell me how fast im actually going.

i see...well then i will be out on the lookout to see what other deals there are, but once i actually get my sidekick to see what i will be modding on it...it will be more of a desert racer/some street use here and there to school...

my dad/uncle will be getting a bundle of the km2s next week for their baja trucks so i can get them for a discount and i have always liked them...i was just curious what width you were running on the km2s as my dad/uncle are getting 35x12.5 and i wanted to get a 31x11.5 or so but am not sure how much it can handle...

I believe they were the 10.50 but I could be wrong and they could have been 11.50, sorry im just not sure. good luck on the build and once you get one start a build thread on here on all you do to it to build it into a desert racer.

It is far cheaper to convert a 5spd manual to a 3spd auto trans or put 5.12's into a 3spd's diffs than to drop a grand on a set of 5.62's.

With most 31's and a 5spd with 5.12's the difference is exactly 10%, very easy to look at the speedo and do the calculation in your noggin rather than look at a pos gps, also a heck of a lot cheaper. LOL

Hi all,

Here is my 1992 Suzuki Vitara JLX 1.6 16 valve LWB. Its first owner was my father until 2008 from brand new. After 16 years of regular use I decided to completely paint (spray) and modify it to fit 30" m/t tyres, wide fender flares etc.

Hello all, My name is mike, I'm from NW Oregon, & just picked up a bone stock '90 sidekick the other day.
I plan on giving it a mild lift & some more aggressive tires  to start, & go from there.
My off road ride for the last few years has been a 73 vw baja that I have done a bit of work on.
I look forward to learning all about the sidekick & having fun with it. thanks in advance on the many ??? to come.
Here are some pics of my Suzuki.

It's a '97 Geo Tracker LSi 1.6L 16v. Completely stock. Very clean, except for faded paint.

Here it is as of a few days ago:

Due to a crack in the radiator, it overheated and warped the head. In the process of getting everything put back together now, hopefully will be done by this weekend.

I have been lurking and learning for a while now and finally decided to pull the trigger. I bought a 1992 Sidekick 1.6 8v, 5-speed, power steering, and A/C stock with a few interesting mods from previous owners. I have gone through all the mechanicals and fluids and she is running excellent. I put a 1" body lift + 2.5" OME suspension lift from low range, Warn Manual Hubs, New CVs up front. I put 31 x 10.5 x 15 Nexen MTs on 15" Pro Comp Steel Wheels with 2.5" backspace. I had to trim the back of the front fender a few inches on an angle to make them fit. I may have to do some reading on the Hagen mod because I think at full stuff I will have issues.

Next items on the list include: Front bumper with Winch, Rear Bumper with Spare Tire Carrier, Sport Cage, Stereo and speakers, CB Radio and antenna, rear locker, not exactly in that order. I need to find someone in my area to fab the bumpers and cage, shipping is a lot on the ZOR products. I do like the ZOR bumpers though.

I've been a Suzuki enthusiast for most of my life, I first spotted a new '81 LJ10 at a new car show when I was a kid and fell in love with it because of my appreciation of military rigs. So, my first one was a Forest Green '84 SJ410 LWB, I was a very happy camper, my dad didn't even tell me how to drive it and just gave me the keys, so many great memories...

Long story made short, I've had a few Zuks afterward, all were significantly modified and bought new: '89 Sidekick, (sad/weird ending) '89 SJ413, '92 Samurai (still have!), 2001 SWB 2.0 Vitara...

Anyhoo, back to the present project: my black '93 Sidekick JA tintop daily driver. I'm changing and adding things almost daily, this is where it's at as of now. I'm big on changing and upgrading electrical things too...

Just noticed this section. I picked up a 1995 sidekick jlx with a 1in coil spacer ,235/75/15, brush guard, winch, and a cb radio.

I want to fit 31x10.5x15 to the stock wheels, 2in body lift and maybe 2in coil spacer kit.

Going to add a steel front diff, snorkel, diff breathers, skid plate, and maybe a rotopax on the spare.

Hello, built this one last winter its a 96 tracker with Toyota axles, lockers front and rear, geared 5:71 transfer case is 4:24 with twin sticks, tires are 33" it will crawl pretty slow!
Sprung under with trail gear Toyota pickup 4" lift springs I used from a wrecked donor vehicle. Six shooter knuckles, high steer, made my own slip joint eliminators, has a full roll cage
Always amazes me with the places it will go!

This one is the dune hopper, 2000 tracker with 3" lift,  30 inch tires on old ford 1/2 ton pickup wheels, I put in a 2.3 Aerio engine and 4 speed auto. has 5:12 diffs with locker in rear.
It is a real hot rod and a total blast to drive on the sand dunes!

Hi all, Glad to here. I just bought a new to me 1990 geo tracker tin top. full skid plates front to rear/ trail tough sliders and bumpers, calmini 3" lift. p/s and a/c. This rig will be primarily toad - behind my dodge CTD /FWC set up and used as a trail hunter rig for MTB adventures in the sierras and az /Utah deserts. My plan is to upgrade the truck with rear locker and improve the suspension articulation along with addressing its weaknesses in reliability- (learning what needs to be done to fix the known weak points of the truck. any input or advice is always appreciated.
Thanks Russ

We got this well preserved micro-jeep to tow behind our class b van. Everything seems to work, just needs some maintenance like brakes and alternator. It should be great for running to town for beer or getting to the trailheads.

I built this one a few years back, sold it this spring, regretted it( after seeing the pricing for a side-by-side) then bought it back , at a premium.

Altered Ego 3" pro lift kit, custom front and rear bumper, roof rack, rock rails and skids. MT 15" wheels with 31" tires.
