A guy I wheel with has a Dana 44 under the front of his Sammy.  I'ts a heavy axle compared to the stock one, he is now putting a 16v engine in just to be able to turn it with the 33's on the road.  That is with a 5.8:1 tranfser case and 5:89 gears.  I can outrun him on the road with my SJ-410 with the stock 1.0L, 33's, 6.5:1 and 5.12 gears.  If he unlocks his front hubs he can almost keep up though.  :D

You can always get them cut down if you want.  What size tires are you looking to run?

dana 44 axle is to heavy. use toyota axles. there a strong axle and will take a lot of abuse.

trade those 44's for some toy gear, you will be happier in the long run. 8)
