Post by: airdale navy on August 01, 2010, 09:52:32 AM
I'm swapping motors this weekend .I'm thinking about replacing the clutch while I have it out.(91 sidekick 2DR)What is the different in a 2DR&4DR clutch? Is the 4DR a little heaver clutch? Is there any benefit in use a 4DR clutch in a 2DR?It is my daily driver.I do use the 4WD alot in the winter & a little 2 tracking. ???

The 4 door flywheel is just a little bit bigger and the cost goes way up for the little that you would gain (120.00 more) I would just call petroworks on Monday and tell them what you have and see how much for a dual friction clutch.

First off, there was a lot of info HERE:
http://www.zukiworld.com/forum/technical-discussion-beginner-repair/clutch-28822/ (http://www.zukiworld.com/forum/technical-discussion-beginner-repair/clutch-28822/)
where Skyhiranger and others passed on a lot of good info.  I bought a "4dr" clutch for my 90 2dr.  The clutch was made for a 16v engine but apparently the 16v and 8v flywheels are the same, and the clutch is interchangeable.
I know it fits on mine, I just haven't gotten it all put back together yet.  But the larger clutch still fits on the flywheel, and they use the same flywheel (verified at the auto parts store).
I went with the larger 16v clutch (8.5") to replace my old 8v, 7-7/8" clutch.
Hope this helps.

What about 'em?  I bought the whole clutch kit.  NO way I was just gonna replace the friction disc by itself.  I'm only taking that damn transmission out ONCE so I best do it right the first time!

While you have it out look at the seals. I had a small leak out the drain hole on the bell housing. When I dropped the trans to check the rear main seal, the leak turned out to be the front transmission seal. It was hard as a rock on my '93 Samurai.  I replaced the clutch while I was in there, but I don't want to do that job again. Good time to replace the clutch cable as well, depending on your tolerance for road/trail -side repairs.
