Title: 255/70/16's with 2inch suspension lift???
Post by: bzzr2 on August 01, 2010, 10:30:35 AM
i just sold my tracker and got an 03 xl7 5spd and want to put a mild lift and some tires on it so it doesn't feel like a car and so i can still get out to my favourite campsites.  the question is can i fit the 255/70's (i don't care if there is frame rub at full steering lock) with a 2inch coil spacer lift?  i dont' want to trim the body, any very minor rub that doesn't damage the tires is fine under compression as it won't get wheel like the tracker did.  i see people seem to be big on the 225/75/16's but would rather the extra .7 inches of tire if possible.  i had 30's on my tracker way back with only 1.5inches of lift so i'm thinking this should be manageable?!

my tires have a slight rub at full lock 225/75/16 with calmini lift and 2" body lift . blacknight runs 245/75/16 i never seen that size tire but think it would be to big without trimming

I do not think they will clear the fender bottoms with just a 2" lift. 245's barely make it, that extra .5" may make the difference.

the 255/70/16's measure 30.0 or 30.1, whereas the 245/75/16's measure 30.6 or 30.7.  like i mentioned frame no problem, my swampers rubbed big time on the tracker and it's just a matter of getting used too..  any more thoughts?!?

Sorry I did not see the 70 part of the 255. I was assuming 255/75. Then they should fit OK but it will be close.

close is perfect.  i wheeled the snot outta my tracker and there was maybe 2mm clearance and all went well.  jeff, i'll be in touch about the lift soon now that i have the truck.  the reality is this is not to be a wheeling truck like the tracker was.

hey jeff, are you saying guys are successful in fitting a 245/74/16 with just a 2inch lift on the xl7?  i'm thinking now of going 215/85/16 which measures in at 30.4 tall and has a narrow tread, about the same but maybe a tad narrower than the 225/75/16's....  anyway your feedback is appreciated, tnx.

I know I fit a 245/75 on my 97 4dr. with just my 2" coil kit. I think the XL-7 fenders are about the same.  ??? I know guys have run a 30" tire on Vitaras using just my coil kit. You will have an advantage by running a narrower tire. The turning radius needed to clear the fenders will be less than a 245/75. I hope this helped.

ya, i used to run 31x9.5 swampers on my tracker at one time, the stock rim and narrow tire meant no cutting!  the 215/85's are going to be close... not sure what i'll do just yet.
