Title: Bestop ???
Post by: zacparry on August 02, 2010, 07:28:34 AM
I just bought a new-to-me sammy after becoming the victim of a texting and driving >:(...aparently the other driver can't see the red light when looking down at the phone!

Anyway, it came with a brand new looking bestop and boy is that think tight.  I had to really hang on the back window to get the snaps to attach and I could not get the single rear window snap to the right of the spare to snap.  Is this normal?  My last top, not bestop, on my former sammy had no problems like this.  Will it ever stretch out?  I am worried that if I need to get into the back this winter, I won't beable to reclose the back window.

They stretch, but winter will still be tough to get it back on

Agreed, I try and put my top back on during the day while it's still heated and flexible, just the temp difference from the sun going down makes a big difference.

So if you are still struggling with the top.  I suggest parking in a sunny spot for maybe 20 minutes, and it should stretch fine.

Thanks guys.
I got the rear windo buttoned down, but if this thing shrinks up this winter there is no way I will be able to get the back window closed if I have to get my verhicle extraction equipment or jumper cables out of the back.  I am going to try and cinch down the straps in the back and see if that helps.  It is just frustrating when the cheaper ebay top I had on my other sammy fit better than the "best"top. ???

I got a cheep top and it fit the same as the good ones, but
it was made by Bestop, just a lower line I guess

Generally, when tops get old they actually shrink and get tighter.
When trying to snap the rear window across the top of the tailgate, make sure you have the window zippers only zipped about halfway down.....that will give you just a little bit more room to get the bottom of the window fastened to the top of the tailgate.
I wouldn't pull the corner straps down too tight.  If they get pulled too hard, the corners of the top will tear at the corners of the support bar.
