Title: 1995 sidekick jx engine upgrade to 1996 sidekick sport engine
Post by: Austinak on August 05, 2010, 01:21:26 AM
I want to know if I can directly bolt on a 1996 sidekick sport 1.8l engine or the larger 2.0 to a 1995 sidekick jx. Any help would be great.

The 1.8/2.0 engines are completely different from the 1.6 engines.  To swap one in you would have to swap the complete wiring harness too.  Plus, I was thinking the trackicks that had the 1.8/2.0 engines had wider frames, so it might be a tight fit to fit them in one that had a 1.6 engine, and you would likely have to make motor mounts too.

Thanks. I didn't even think about the 1.8 and 2.0 having a larger space under the hood.

Also - the 1.8 has a different bellhousing to connect up the semi-common 5-speed transmission.  Rumor has it that the 5-speed behind a 1.8 has a different ratio fifth gear in it compared to the 1.6 five-speed...

It also uses a hydraulic clutch system.

Checkout the Aftermarket4x4 website and also TrailTough, I think they both do kits to fit the J series engine in the earlier Track/Kick.
