I went over tonight to pick up the $100 Tracker tonight, and managed to lope home on 2 or 3 cylenders. :o
So, I got her home, snapped some pics, and started tearing the head off to swap it with the one from my parts tracker. Hopefully it won't take too long to get running again.
And pics:

Ya got what ya paid for ;D
It doesn't look all that bad except for the little bit of rust ;D
-
Hey, up here that thing is fucking mint for how old it is :P
-
Well maybe you just might need a spare 3rd member ;D
-
It'd be worth that much if push comes to shove :)
Of course I still want to get a GV diff housing and third member someday... someday when I have some extra cash... after tires :)

Wire wheel the heavy rust, get some of that spray
on rust convertor, turns rust to black oxide, and
hit it good with some undercoating, the good stinky
tar stuff, and be happy with your early Track/Kick
Hey it's got A/C does it have Power Steering too ??
Good trade

And put that battery in a deep plastic battery box,
after you kill the acid and rust under it too, it will
help, unless you don't care about holes in the body
;)
-
Will autoparts stores have undercoating? What's a good brand to keep an eye out for?
Thanks for the tip on the battery... I'll have to do that on both Trackers :)
-
Ya, the autoparts should have that stuff in the paint area,
look for the undercoating that has asphalt emultion or a
similar wording, should smell like road tar almost, then in
a few weeks after it's hardend you can paint over it, bed
liner (spray) works good too, but costs more

Forgot about AmourAll the interior to a nice shine, remove the carpet, then tarring the interior floor to match..... :)
So you have this black hardtop, now a bright red one. Cool. Get it cleaned up, running right, then resell for upgrades on your other one.
You are a youngster and need the money, not the carSSS.
-
I'm currently getting rid of the rust and undercoating the everything under the carpet :)
That's what I'm having a hard time with... choosing whether I want to fix it up and have a decent vehicle to drive, or whether I should sell it and use the profit for upgrades to the black one... So confused ???
Oh well, I'll have plenty of time to think about it while I work on it :)
-
I would LOVE to find a 2dr hardtop that cheap! :o They are pretty rare aren't they?
-
Since you are in Michigan, check with boat suppliers about their rust inhibitor applied to the steel boats. There's coatings galore out there and readily available to the public. Think of using marine applications to help with the rust.
-
i used some rust inhibitor from Worth on 6/11/04 and i still have some of it on me. i can't get it off! that must be some bad ass stuff to stick like that.

I dunno... this is my second. Can't seem to find a decent priced rag top :(
I took the head off tonight, and there were indeed 2 burnt exhaust valves. Shouldn't be too long until I have everything back together and have it running ;D
I bought some undercoating that has the asphault stuff in it (Wildgoody's suggestion), and started to brush all the rust off, spray it down with rust converter stuff I had sitting around, and then undercoat it... I hope it'll keep it from rusting ;)

How'd the undercoating turn out?
What kind did you get?
I'm gonna do it to mine to keep it from rusting.(Got to sand some light surface rust in spots first though)

So far, I'm just doing the tub interior. Seems to be working alright. I just bought some cheap canned stuff from Carquest.
-
I'm expecting regular posts of pics explosivo!!! ;D
I love watching the transformations... very sexy ;)

Actually, in a very unusual manner for me, I've been doing tons of work and haven't taken but a few pictures :o
I do have some, so I'll post em for ya ;)

I did a lot of work today with Stu, but the camera man was down on his job. So we didn't get many pics.

Hrm... I wonder why it was running on 2 cylenders ;)

Starting to get things put back together:

Ooh, look at that purdy valve cover!

The engine's all put back together:

I now have the front end put back together and the hood on... seems to be running fine. I put some JB Weld on the fuel lines, so hopefully that'll eliminate the gas leak... I guess I'll find out for sure tomorrow.
The interior is all ripped up now... rust holes are being repared, everything is getting sprayed down with undercoating, and the seats and carpet will go back in.
I tell you, all you people who don't have rust problems, consider yourselves very luck. It sucks the balls a lot. >:(
I still think $100 was a good deal... even with all the work I'm putting into it ;)
-
Lovin' it man!! 8)
Too bad I couldn't give you a hand! Thanks for the quick reply on the pics!!
