Title: My DIY replica K-Line Bikini
Post by: ecoast on August 12, 2010, 10:54:54 AM
First draft; tonneau cover fabric, grey binding (trim), stainless snap hook and pad eyes, reinforced corners, polypro webbing

I can make these from many choice of fabric, mesh as well...various binding colors also.

Looking for suggestions/brainstorming for plastic strip supply for front edge?

Raining ATM, will show mounted in a bit.

Interest?

x2!!  price?

installed pics today

What's is it worth to have
choice of fabric / color
choice of binding color
SS H'ware
UV rated thread (HEAVY; BT92)

I was hoping a price discussion would emerge so it's fair...

in making a safari top this week my wife found something that would work for that plastic strip on the front, I will get back to you tonight when I can go back to the store and double check on what it was.

I had a Steel Horse soft top for my Jeep YJ, they just folded over the fabric on the end rather then sewing in the plastic line.  Worked fine for the bikini top.

sorry scratch what I said about the boning I just looked at fly n hawaiians rig last night and saw that channel piece that its apparently supposed to go into, mine doesnt have it so I didnt know it had to have some extra underneath that slides into that. Fly n hawaiian told me to use some of that blck barrier plastic that they use for lawns sometimes to creat a barrier between the lawn and a garden, not sure how a needle is supposed to go through it though. What did you end up using?

I mean where do those rear straps snap or tie onto?

I think it still straps all the way in the rear where the safari does and where there are a rings in each back corner.

sweet.  i had been thinkin i wanted a bikini like what ecoast made but now im thinkin it might be better to have the safari.

Ecoast, would you be able to swing that?  and on a diff note, would you be able to do multi colors, i know that'd make it cost a lil more but would it be doable?

As for the prices, LROR has safaris for 139 and mesh bikinis for 55 (safari 90).  is that the ball park price your lookin at chargin?

yup the bikini top may be nice when your by yourself but with others in the rig the safari would be better.

exactly.  and with Colorados freak rain showers the safari might help keep the rain out while drivin a little better

I run a Safari style top with the stock style cage, just let it come down and cover the back.  It works great for keeping the wind out of the cabin and still gives you a more open feel to the cabin.  It's also enough to keep warm during winter wheeling when doors are on the vehicle.

The only problem is it really needs a rear window put in so you can see behind you when backing up...

Here is a picture of the older top, a cut down soft top.  I don't seem to have pictures with the new top on, it fits a bit better then the old one.
