That's depends on what engine and tranny you have, most ring and pinions are 5.12's gears, some 89's were 5.63's try a search for rear third member

Then stock it has 4.62s and you need to find another auto trans truck,
but the later years had some different ratios so you need to check after
about 92' years to be sure

If you are swapping out the complete third, then you just have to find one with 4.62s and if yours had rear ABS (it will have an electrical connection on the third), then you will need to find one that has the electrical connector...otherwise, your brake light on the dash will be on all the time.  If yours doesn't have the electrical connector on the rear third, you can either use one with it, or without it.....it will work and fit fine and it won't affect the brake light on the dash or anything else.
Any 89-95 2 door with an 8V and an auto should have 4.62 gears.
All 96-98 X90s had 4.62s (both auto and manual trannies).
The 91 4 doors with the auto tranny had 4.62s.

sky- so what you are saying is when I read about guys buying a stick rig and swapping to an auto to gain the lower gears, does not apply to my 96 manual trans?

A 96 with a manual tranny already has 5.12 gears.  So your only options are to find a set of 5.38 or 5.62 gears to swap in.  Both can be hard to find, but I do have a set of each for sale.  But I will warn you, they are not cheap.
