OK.. So my Suburban died a couple of weeks ago and I'm in limbo here..... Buy a new ride or daily drive My Kick... If I daily drive the kick I need to be able to haul my kayaks to the river... In FL I just strapped them down on the roof with straps going to the front and rear bumpers, but here, I need to interstate drive to get to my destinations...
Does any one have any ideas on a roof rack system that could accommodate two kayaks, that would not mess with the removal/install of the soft top?

Tried Google yet? Not being smart, just wondering. I had a Competition Blue 92 Tracker back in 94 that had the factory roof rack on it. More like Dealer installed, but, you get the idea. The back legs of it bolted on right above the taillights, the center legs mounted on the "roll bar" using plates that went under the soft top side bracket and the front legs mounted on plates that mounted under the hinge pivot point for the front of the soft top. It had 3 bars on it, back behind the area where the front of the top would fold to, to carry stuff.

I like that rack.... but I'm thinking something more like what you see on cars (Thule racks)... I like the bar set up and want it to be removable do I dont rip it off when wheeling.

Plus... I would not fit in the office parking garage if I used that rack.. I only have 2" of clearance before I start hitting the pipes.

I know calmini's rack has a stationary bracket system, with a removable basket...for soft top models

Cool.. thanks... I'm going Kayaking Saturday. I will see how it does on the 20 mile trip to the river with no rack... Luckily I can run back roads to the Red River.. but the trip next month is in GA, SC, and east TN....

The basket that I used is a Steelhorse item was not supplied with the bars. Its supposed to be easily removable and probably is if you live in California, the problem is that the quick release fixings collect rainwater and rust very badly.
I hadn't heard of anyone in the US with these bars but they are marked 'Made in US', no manufacturers name though, they were sold through UK Suzuki dealers as an 'Approved Accessory'.
