Title: 90 tracker auto to 5 speed???
Post by: Velocity on September 01, 2010, 11:51:25 AM
I'm in the process of swapping a 5 speed in my 90 model 4x4 tracker. Ive already bought the trans off ebay...i think it was pulled from a 96 model but from researching it the trans is the same as the older models. I know i need clutch pedal assembly, cable, and shifter and interior plastic. Im about to order a clutch, and a pilot and throwout bearing. Someone told me i need a starter off a 5 speed tracker. Is that true? What about the flywheel? Anything else i need for the swap?

You need a flywheel but I'm not sure about the starter, never heard
that one, I did a swap from a 5 speed to an auto trans and we used
the same starter for that truck, so I would think it would work the
other way

Your old starter will work.
You definitely need a flywheel.  The auto "flywheel" is nothing like the 5 speed flywheel.
If you have a choice, get the 8.5" diameter clutch (usually the same price as the 7.9" clutch), it will work fine with any 1.6 trackick flywheel that you get.
Your old ECM will work fine with the 5 speed.
The rest of what you mentioned should cover the swap.

Also much better to sell the auto buggy outright since they're worth more than the 5-spd versions.  Then just buy a cheap 5-spd buggy complete.
