Title: Proud new owners of a 98 Tracker 2dr 4x4 but have ?'s
Post by: myk dee on September 06, 2010, 03:38:43 PM
Me and my wife just purchased a 98 tracker, want to do a tune-up what brand of parts has everyone has the best luck with? Spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, upgraded intake or k&n filter?
Also I can get an extra motor from the junk yard out here for $100 what is the best way to check if the motor is good or not, reason I want it, is that our motor is leaking from the oil pan and somewhere from around the timing belt cover, and that also needs to be replaced. Figure it will be easier to just rebuild another motor and for that price not much more than tring to repair the one in the vehicle. So any suggestions on any of my questions will be appreciated, thanks.

IMO....factory Suzuki cap, rotor and wires. ngk plugs (originals no snake oil ones) and a k&n filter.

if you can get any 1.6 16 valve for 100 bucks. GET IT!! if you going to rebuild it anyway the condition shouldn't be an issue. if it turns over (even by hand) and the oil is not white its probably a good motor/core.

also if you could get the wiring harness and computer from the donor rig get that too, you could sell it for enough to rebuild the motor for your trackick. (people always need 'em for conversions)
