the Sidekick is a 95 4dr 5spd 2 wheel drive. the engine is out of a 94 unknown model. Do i use the timing info under the hood(5btdc) or use the 94's timing? ECM is the 95s.

You will use the timing from the 95.
I have a 96 and run mine a few degrees in advance of what the timing info under the hood recommends (5 degrees). Otherwise the engine tends to have a bit of a flat spot when accelerating between 2K and 3K on the RPM range. I believe Wildgoody actually runs his between 10-12 degree advanced, but I don't know if that is with the diagnostic bit set or just when the vehicle is at idle.

That 10* was pre turbo, since then it has been timed by ear to reduce the pinging

Was that at idle or when you jumpered the computer into diagnostic mode?

Depending on the quality (octane) of the fuel available and what you're willing to pay for, you can run as much as 20* advanced - although I would approach it the way wild has, advance it until it just starts to ping and then back it off until it just stops. There is a corresponding increase in performance and throttle response as you increase the advance.

If you don't trust your ears, the jumper it (which disables the ECU advance), set it to the FSM figures, and then remove the jumper.
