Hey all I have 1988 samurai that my uncle is letting me use. The only problem is I cant pass inspection because the low beams will not work the high beams work perfectly fine.
Any ideas on what it could be and possible fixes?
thanks in advance

Bad head lamps, check the fuses, but I don't think they were fused

Just replaced the lamps and its the same fuse for both high and low beams if i remember correctly.
-
Check the wiring between the lights and the combo switch - there's either a burnt or broken wire.
-
It might also be a relay issue, as high beams and low beams run off of a separate relay.
In my SJ-410 the switch for the beams went out and I lost the low beams. I was able to take it apart and build the switch returning it to working order.

As I recall ...
On a Samurai - there are no headlight relays
On a SideKick - there are no headlight relays
On a Grand Vitara - the headlights relays turn the lights on/off, buit do not select high/low beam.

I thought there was a relay on the SJ series, but it looks like your right. There is a R/W wire coming from dash for the low beams and a R wire for the high.
