Title: Fixing Calmini's saggy front springs
Post by: MUD CHILD on September 19, 2010, 01:01:33 PM
I now offer a kit to fix the problem of Calmini's sagging front springs. The kit inclides 2 CNC machined coil spacers that will addapt FOA coils into the Suzuki coil bucket. It also comes with 3" strut spacer which are tig welded and powder coated (I always wondered why Calmini's 3" lift came with a 2" strut spacer?). You will need to purchase a new set of springs from FOA, to use with this kit. I will supply you with the part # when you have ordered your kit. If you are running OME struts you will not need the strut spacers as the OME struts are longer. If you have any questions post them here or e-mail me at SRCUSTOMS|removethispart||removethispart||removethispart||removethispart|@shaw.ca

Complete kit $160
Coil spacers only $85
Prices are in Canadian

They work great I have had them in for over 2 years now and have no complaints.

Once again, nice looking stuff Mud. I'm still looking to get a set of those spacers to go with my FOA coils that I haven't installed yet. Ever since I replaced my winch cable and fairlead with rope and the much lighter aluminum rope guide, my front end doesn't sag nearly as much. Still want to get a set though.

(I always wondered why Calmini's 3" lift came with a 2" strut spacer?).

If you go longer than 2" then the bump stops will be too short and you may start wrecking struts, also because of the design of the front wishbones the CVs are further extended than with the stock wishbones so you also risk trashing driveshafts.
OME struts without any spacers will reduce travel by around 1/2"

I've been running mine with OME struts and 2" strut spacers for over 2 years and have had no issues. I 've installed this kit in a few other zuks using the calmini struts and my 3" strut spacer and none of them have had any problems either. The cv are still within there safe operating range.

I bought an old kick with the 3 in calmini lift and a 3 in body lift to swap to another kick. It rides pretty rough and noticed the springs are bowed. Would this fix that? Also thinking about replacing the struts while im doing it. Any advice?

Yes this will fix that problem. If you are going to replace your struts I suggest getting a set of OME struts. I'm running OME struts with these springs and the ride quality is like night and day from how it was with the calmini springs and struts. It no longer feels like a hay wagon.

Are the FOAs to wide at the top to fit the pockets?

Yes that's why I make the adapter it "mates" the 2 together

with the adapters do you use a shorter spring?

Got the kit today everything looks great.  FOA no longer sells the blue coils, they now only deal in Viper coils. So I got the 500lb ones I got . I will install them after I get back from the ship later this month. My goal is a smooth ride as this is my daily driver.

I've been informed that the difference between the old " blue " coils and the new Viper  ( thankfully BLACK ) coil is the blues were hand wound and the Vipers are CNC wound for better consistency. I've been using Mudchilds  adapters and the old blue coils for a couple years now, and they work GREAT.
