I have a stock samurai that was given to me it has the stock 1.3 with a K&N on it with 215/75/15 tires, it has lots of power down low but when I hit fifth it bogs and stays at 55mph!! any ideas let me know!!

How many miles on the engine? what is the compression PSI?
have you checked the timing? how about the Cat? is it plugged
and is there anything restricting the exhaust like stuff in the muff.
Did you do any tuneup and how is the air filter?
These basics should cover the most likely reasons that it might
not have the power to pull more than 60 on small rubber

I've messed with the timing cleaned the air filter did a tune up and its still the same! could it be the carb??? when pressing the gas, it feels like there is a sweet spot, where it wants to keep pulling!

Unless it's a K&N cleaning the air filter is not going to work
if it's plugged. Messing with the timing is OK, but where is
the advance? 5*, 10*? it's really important on a small engine.
Sweet spots are nice, but is it at the spot where you want
it? You might need to clean the carb.
The compression is critical, and needs to be checked, you
didn't put how many miles or Km you have, also a need to know
Remember these engines only had about 60 HP so a small loss
is really going to be felt

I have 84000 miles on it and the compression is good according to the haynes manual, would a upgrade to a weber conversion kit be worth it for $340.00??

Just dropping on a carb isn't going to solve the issue,
have you looked at an exhaust system, 2" back and a
header would be better $$ spent if you have a stock
system.
The miles aren't bad, but it's a 100K odo so it could be
200K + 84,000, the condition of the seats and the truck
in general can sort of tell you.

On a 1.3 Suzuki says the minimum is 170 psi - it will run surprisingly well with less, but it WILL be down on power - by the time you get down to 100~120 it won't be able to get out of it's own way.

Are there any headers or complete systems that I should look at to get the best bang for my buck?? when I got this thing it had been sitting for ten years with a soft top in salt lake city, the exaust looks clean but its a one piece system so it makes it hard to check for a clog. It also had the stock tires still on it with lots of tread. Are there any other things that I can do to make it alittle better???

you never said what the actual compression was ??? and did you do a leak-down test?I wouldn't always trust Haynes/Chilton manuals for specs (I have found incorrect info in both). it sounds like a compression or timing/advance issue too me. and if you have a poorly tuned motor or worn out one a nice paint job or chrome pulley wont make a engine run better.
BTW samurais are horribly gutless when they are running prime.IMO

On your tune up, did you:
replace the spark plug wires?
replace the distributor cap?
replace the rotor button?
replace the spark plugs with NGK BPR5ES?
replace the PCV?
Adjust valves?
replace fuel filter?
Most of the above are probably OK, but if they are original and over 20 years old, and if you plan on keeping the truck, they need to be replaced, especially the PCV just due to ageing.
Use 1/3 can of Seafoam in your gas tank and run some through your carb.
If your compression is low, you could try Engine Restore and see if it helps. But you will have to run it abut 200 miles before you might see any results, it at all.
What is your idle speed? If high, then you probably have a vacuum link or EGR stuck open.
Does you engine/sensor light display when you turn the key to run before starting? If not, you might have a bad sensor or two, but there is no way of telling if the light doesn't work.
Have you checked you O2 sensor?
What kind of gas mileage are you getting?
If it is 84K actual miles, then your catalytic converter and exhaust should be fine.
What year is it?

its an 88, and I'm getting just about 300 miles to a tank depending on how I drive it.
when I start it up the idle is high but it comes back down once it warms up!

"Samuai can't get over 60." Heck, I didn't even know that they could get over 35! ??? But, then again, around here they are pretty much nothing but rock buggies anymore, and ssslllooowww ones at that!

The Down pipe on samurai's are double walled coming out of the exhaust manifold, the inner pipe collapses and cuts way down on the flow of your exhaust, Both of my 88 sammies had this problem. hope this helps.
