Title: CALMINI Bumpers
Post by: Crabzuki on June 16, 2004, 04:11:00 AM
Has anyone ordered the Calmini Bumpers ? I wanted to know just how many are still waiting for them. I have been bugging them and each time it's a different story, One time I called and they're telling me that they're at the powder coaters,  on another call they're just starting work on them and they will be at the powder coaters. Me I'm getting antsy driving around without bumpers...   >:( I am waiting for the front winch bumper and rear swing away bumper, and the rear truss.   :(

I've got mine - love 'em.  Probably got one of the first few production units of both the rear bumper, and the Anvil.

I would've gotten pissed a few months ago if I were in some of the situations that you guys are with Calmini... good product or not, 4-5+ months is not acceptable IMO.

That is freakin rediculous!! Absoulutely unacceptable, What excuse have they given you for the delay? I called them about two weeks ago and was going to order a t-case mount and 5.14-1 gears for my sammy build and was told the mounts aren't being made yet. I said thanks but no thanks to a "pre-order" and called Trail Tough, parts came to work on the "Brown Truck" four days later, wow!

Hmm, I was thinking about ordering a rear bumper with tire carrier. I'll just get one made now.

I had to wait a while on my 3" Lift Kit. But they told me that they were being made and it would take a while. It did, but it was definately worth the wait ;) Every thing else I have ordered from them has been shipped quick.

But so much for the being late delivery sh*t for the ones who have them on allready... Are they really just bolt on??? and how do they do in practice ??? I'd be the first one with a calmini bumper on a Tracker here in The Netherlands then I believe....

I bet they've gotta wait for orders to build up to make it worth the production run.  Making onesees and twosees all the time is expensive and not much profit margin in it.  Same operating procedure as with most small fabrication shops.

Yes, they're really just bolt on (well as long as your frame isn't bent...  Oh, and you do WELD the brackets that go on the rear bumper - the bumper bolts to the brackets, and I ran without welding it for a few months.

They work GREAT.  I can't say enough how satisfied I am with them.  BUT - I had to wait about 3 months for the rear bumper, and at least that long for the Anvil.  They have a bad habit of listing a new product before they're ready to actually build it and ship it.

I thought I read somewhere that you needed to have the 2 or 3" suspension lift before installing the winch bumper.  Is that correct?

The bodylift brackets are sold seperately, so I'd imagine that it's the suspension lift that's required (or recommended).

You need either no body lift or brackets are available for the three inch body lift. Some modifications would be needed to be made to the brackets to work with the two inch body lift. In theory, the bumper can be mounted on a track/kick with no lift but would seriously stress the stock coils.I spoke in depth with Steve about this as I almost bought the winch bumper, untill I wheeled with stock t-case gears. then I spent the money on the gears ;D

What makes me mad is that they lied too me.

I ordered it in mid January.  I was told maby the end of Feburay but most likely sometime in March.

In April it was the end of April maby as far as May.

Now it's on the back side of June (6months) and nothing.  If it's going to be 6 months then just tell me.  At least I'll know I have to wait.

I trashed a set of front gears, called them up, and got them in a week.  So if they have it in stock no problem, if not who knows.

I understand your pain in the a*s, but after some advice about a different subject with Steve Kramer I believe that they're swamped with back orders. (one taking orders and one building them for shipping out)  Short of help  ;)

You might want to check out Shrock on this board, he may be able to fab you up a custom bumper.  I have some of his stuff on my samurai, he does great work!

I'm planning to visit James in August and will see if he can make a couple of parts for me. I just don't care for the drive to Texas, I drove to North Carolina and it tired me out so I am sure that when the wife and I go to Texas we'll be mentally drained also.
