Title: Removing third when running birfield rings
Post by: Skyhiranger on September 30, 2010, 06:57:22 AM
Help me remember.....
It's been about 2.5 years since I installed my front locker.  I need to remove the front third for some "maintenance".  I can't remember if I had to remove the whole knuckle assembly, to allow the axle shafts to pull out enough so the third would come out, or not.  I was thinking I may have just removed everything from the spindle out (including the spindle) and the axleshaft slid out just far enough to get the third out (the birfields with rings on them won't fit through the hole in the knuckle).
Anyone know, or remember, for sure?

I've removed the knuckles and just pulled the entire spindle out before without issues.  It does make lining up the axles a bit of a pain though.

I had to remove the knuckles to be able to pull the axles out far enough to get the third out. It wasn't even really close, with the knuckles still on...I couldn't even get the axles out of the sidegears.
