Title: what year sidekicks had what diff gears?
Post by: airmanwilliams on October 19, 2010, 04:49:06 PM
Ok so im going to go down to orem utah soon and find some diffs to pull from some sidekicks that I can swap into my 87 sami. I would like to know what years had what gearing though so I dont pull the wrong ones and end up having to pay for different sets since I pulled them.

I guess you didn't search on here, huh?
Even if using the chart that is posted on here, you still need to verify the ratio before you buy them.  Count the teeth on the ring and pinion, divide the number of teeth on the ring by the number of teeth on the pinion.

Can that list be made into a sticky?

Seems like this ground gets covered so much that we are developing ruts,
and you know what the Greenies do when they see ruts  :P

does anyone have a link to a write up for a swap of 4.62 gears into sami housings? I was going to pay someone to do this for me so I dont screw it up but now I need to look at doing it myself when I find cheap sami diffs.

jBrandon id just use your diffs you have,or id just bolt the Sidekick diffs in until you can afford to have Tyler do it for you.  Doing it yourself can be a real pita and if not done correctly will just cost more down the road.

ok so someone posted about what year sidekicks have what gears and what liter they are but can you guys also tell me what years have 8v or 16v engines please? The reason I ask is im calling some yards right now to get quotes on engines and other parts for swaps and they need the year to be able to see if the vehicle still has the engine or not.

No problem. ;)  I don't think that info is on the site anywhere....so you wouldn't have been able to find it by searching.
