if you follow the lockright install manual TO THE LETTER then you dont need to reset the backlash.read the manual, follow every step in the book exactly and it will go back as it came out.

the first one i did i was stressing over the backlash, but it came out ok,ive done a few now and no problems.

if the backlash is about right before you start then its ok when you finish.

rock the crown wheel to get a feel of it and as long as it feels about the same after fitting then you will be ok.

My low 5.83s that I got from Heather were
set to .008" by Trail Tough, so the ring gear
(crown) should move .008-.010" with a dial
indicator set up touching the ring gear teeth

The most important setting is the pinion depth,
but if you didn't change gears and just installed
the locker, adjust the back lash to meet the 8-10
and you should be good.
