Title: 2.0L spark plug question and torque on the top strut bolts
Post by: AJMBLAZER on November 23, 2010, 06:40:56 PM
1 - Anybody have the spark plug replacement procedure on the 2.0L I4?  Need to do mine and I have a nice set of NGK's sitting here.  Not totally familiar with this type of ignition system.

2 - What's the torque on the big bolt that goes on the top end of the front struts?  The one in the center of the strut mount inside your engine bay?  Think mine may be a bit loose.

I think its 62 & the spark plugs were really quite simple as they use coil packs...
I remember just removing the coil packs and then using a spark plug removal tool (I think its almost due time for me to do the same thing)

I usually remove the strut brace to access the one plug.

To remove the plugs - depress the latch on the coil pack connectors and unplug, remove the coil pack retaining screw, remove the coil pack by pulling straight up (sometimes it sticks to the plug and you'll need to twist it), remove the plugs with a standard plug socket and a long extension.

Thanks guys.  Sounds fairly easy. 8)

Strut bolts were properly torqued.

Got the plugs out and they're a bit...white.  Put the new NGK's in and I can feel the difference. 8)

8"  3/8 drive extension and a magnetic retrieval tool worked wonders for pulling and placing that 2nd spark plug under the strut bar.
The 3rd coil pack back separated from the boot down in the well.  Luckily it's just a press fit and the little spring inside didn't go anywhere.  Finally worked the boot out and pushed the whole thing back together.  Runs great.

Also...something...left me a turd in front of the 3rd coil pack down in that valley they sit in.  Lovely. :-\
