Title: choke problems
Post by: greg51 on November 28, 2010, 06:02:08 AM
I have a 88 Suke that the water choke is not opening all the way at the first mark on the temp gauge.  What should I do?

Is this a stock carb?  Is it an issue with the choke not opening or the temp gauge that operates it not telling it to?

One option is to switch to a manual choke.

Does anyone make a manual choke kit for this? Stock carb. I put some cardboard in front of radiator so it would run warmer and the choke then opens farther. Seams to have helped the gas milage. Not sure yet.

does it eventually open all the way?
seems that if you have to block the radiator to warm it up, the thermostat may be faulty or wrong temp.
i think 185 deg. is right?

I'm not sure if there is a kit, but adding a manual choke is pretty easy to do.  Or you can find an SJ-410 and pull the choke kit off it it.  You should be able to fab up a mount to use it on the Hitachi carb.
