hey all i am new on the site and just picked up a 83 sammie tin top and i need to figure why my heater only blows cold no matter what setting its on defrost or vents ! i know the heater hose's are hot both of them so i know the heater core has hot water going threw it atleast lol and other ideas ? thanks for your time !

On a Samurai hot only blows out of the defrost vents, and
if there are leaves and junk in the heater box, those might
not blow hot either.
There are some posts on this site that address this issue that
involves cutting a hole in the box for vacuum leaf extraction

Are you sure that the water is getting into the heater core. If that valve under the hood isn't opening, it won't. When you move the hot/cold lever, it opend snd closes the valve. They get jammed sometimes or the wire linkage slips.

Hot air will only blow out of the defrost vents (the ones in the top of the dash) and the floor vents (the ones right above the tranny tunnel). You also need to make sure the dash selector switch is working/adjusting correctly....sometimes the cables/linkage doesn't move properly and when you think it should blow through the defrost and/or floor vents, it isn't and you won't get any hot air if that happens.
It could also be that the heater core is clogged. But usually if both hoses going to it feel hot, then coolant is circulating through it properly.

As wildgoody mentioned, the heater core probably has leaves and crap on top of it restricting airflow. The best way to clean it is to take the dash and heater assembly apart and clean it, but some people just cut a hole in the side and vacuum out what they can.
