Title: Two dumb questions re: 87 Sami
Post by: truckpdlr on December 12, 2010, 05:40:45 PM
When shut off after use I have a smell of gasoline,  is it the canister on the firewall and how do I service it?

My Sami has stock 1.3. If I change the exaust to two inches from back of the convertor, change muffler will I see any increased performance or just wasting $.

Thanks

I doubt that you smell the charcoal canister unless the vent line that runs to the canister is off. Normally they make no smell even when bad (plugged). Does your Sammy start easily or does it want to diesel when you want to shut it off? I'm thinking the gas smell is more a result possibly from your carburator float level being a lil to high.

As far as spending the $$$ on larger exhaust pipe and muffler.... you won't feel any noticable HP increase but it might sound kewl depending on your listening taste.

To feel a noticable change you need to spend several $$$ on items like maybe a turbo charger or a 1.6. Not trying to burst yer bubble but there decreasing back pressure alone isn't gonna make yer Sammy get up and gallop much faster......
