Title: need a few opinions on 98 sport
Post by: markpank on December 14, 2010, 06:46:11 AM
hey all Ive been a zuke owner now for a few months and absolutely love the 98 sidekick sport JLX i picked up this year with around 114k when i got it.  Upon getting this vehicle I knew I wanted to get into modding it and found myself here to do research and get an idea of what I'm getting into.  To say the least this site is really informative and you guys are a big help, and make a friendly atmosphere were people aren't afraid to ask questions and voice their opinions unlike a lot of other car forums Ive been a part of.

Any ways I'm looking to see if any one can offer some input or post up some pics from their own experience.  Lets start with the goal:  I'm looking to keep the zuke at it's stock height suspension wise and only go with larger tires and possibly rims to widen the stance.  I'm curious to see what rims people are using for the sport to clear the calipers. If you are running a different rim on your sport could you possibly post up the brand? offset? backspacing?  As of right now im looking to run a 75- 85 sidewall tire and after taking measurements it looks like my lowest point of clearance is on the rear wheel were it measures about 29 inches from ground to top of the outer wheel well.

So mainly I'm looking to see what rims I can use over the stocks mainly with the backspacing set to give the wheels a push outside of the fenders.  I am willing to do any and a lot of trimming necessary to get this achieved at a stock height just asking for some help from other sport owners or any one who has any helpful advice as to how I can accomplish this.
thanks again-Mark

Any one? I'm really just looking to see what people have done and any search on any thing relating to a sport model dosen't result in much.

In case you haven't figured it out yet - the 1.8 SideKick Sport is a relatively rare beast, with quite a few perhaps subtle, yet significant differences under the skin.

Not just a larger engine, but also a wider chassis and different suspension to match - if you have a four door, try the Australian sites and look at the V6 Vitaras - different engine & transmission, but same body, frame, etc.

Seems to me the Sport came with 16" wheels, so either you get another set
of steel wheels with some bigger tires or use the stock wheels and find a shop
that won't harass you about the bigger tires you want, but with no lift, a 29"
tire is about your limit

How much wider is the XL7 hardware then the Sports?
