Title: New Project Samurai
Post by: DBogey10 on December 18, 2010, 08:11:39 AM
Hey Everyone,   I'm new to the trade and was hoping to get some helpful hints and constructive criticism.

I just got my hands on an 88' Samurai and am planning on using it mainly offroad but would like to be able to putt around town as well.  Won't be used for anything extreme yet.  As of now it is bone stock.

Thinking of putting a 5" Calmini SPOA suspension lift (Anyone have any pros or cons on this product?)
31x11.5 M/T with 2.5" backspacing, 15x8 steel wheels.  (Will I need to tamper with gearing?)
I'm pretty sure Hi-Steer will be necessary (Any products that stand out from the others?)

Does anyone know where to find an inexpensive valve cover or do any vehicles match for a straight swap?

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated

If you're going with a SPOA lift i would suggest investing in either a YJ swap or some tougher springs. My stock springs are bent straight and nearly the opposite direction. I also have 31" tires on mine and i would definitely suggest new gearing if you will be running a stock 1.3. I am only able to go 50-55 max on the road and that small engine doesnt have enough balls to turn those tires when you're offroad. It is really not very ideal with stock gears.
