Here's the place to post up your pictures for the 2011 Zukiworld 'Zukfari... Build up, on the way, wheeling, night life in town.... All of the experience! :) Please share here.
Thanks, Eric

Here is the Samurai that I will be taking; mi El Diablito. >:D
It was a tough choice between all of my Samurais, but this is my most expendable one. It has a rusty, beat up body so any additional body damage will be nothing to get upset about.
Here are the current specs:
Stock engine/trans
4:1 t-case
5.12 hybrid rear with spool, 5.12 open diff
Sky Stage I OTT Steering (Won at the 2005 Zukiworld raffle!)
SPOA lift
Smittybuilt front bumper (a beauty eh?)
31" SS TSL tires on reversed stock rims
Here are the mods I want to complete before I take it to Moab:
Front steel carrier with 5.12s, locker
Sky Stage II Steering
Rocker Protection
Front Cage
Tow Bar
etc etc
-
Looking good!
You'll be able to tackle a lot of trails with that set up.
-Eric
-
Hopefully, I'll be taking the "Tortus" to its (and my) first Zukfari:
96 Tracker 4 dr
5 spd
5.12:1 open diffs
4.24:1 rockmonster
sky 1.5 coil and strut spacer kit
30x9.50x15 BFG AT KOs
15x8 Alcoas
Mods I hope to have done by Zukfari:
Toyota axles f & r
5.71:1 diffs w/elockers
4 wheel disk brakes
hi steer kit
4 links
custom tube bumpers f & r
-
Im planning on taking the ZR3 project for a spin in the rocks.
Mods so far...
http://www.zukiworld.com/month_110110/feature_project-zr3-the-way-a-tracker-should-have-been-built.htm (http://www.zukiworld.com/month_110110/feature_project-zr3-the-way-a-tracker-should-have-been-built.htm)
Mods to complete before I get there are:
Front and rear lockers
rear long arm
-
I am now planning on being there. First Time.
93 Tracker 2 door
2.7L w/5 speed auto
5:12
Locker in rear, ARB in front
30 X 9.5
4 link in rear
Taller springs in front, 4 door springs & 2" spacer in back
Need to do list:
install 3/16" skid pans - still waiting on one piece
install limiting straps
install strut braces
Modify hood to fit
I think this was the last trail run.

His reply was: "Sadly, that isn't an option this year. We would have to stop racing so I could have the time off. " :)
Not working has its benefits!
-
Well I've decided that I will not be taking Diablito. It simply needs to much work and I don't have the time to complete it prior to the Zukfari. I will be taking my #2 Samurai, aka GI Zuk, to the Zukfari instead. It's a 1988.5 model that has been all over the US and even to Germany. Here are its spec deviations from stock:
1.6 FI 16-valve
6.5 t-case w/bucket & twin sticks
26-spline front axles
RRO Full High Steer
Sidekick Power Steering
Gusseted Axle Housings Front/Rear
EZ Lockers front/rear
SPOA lift
32" tires on 2.5" BS rims
Shrockworks bumpers front/rear
Warn 8000
Shrockworks rocker protection
Davesport Front Cage
Fold Down Windshield

Is anyone going from Oregon Washington with extra space on a trailer? I'm pretty broke after the engine swap but would really like to try and make it down there, if there was some space available at the right price I might be able to swing this. Let me know, I would also be able to help with driving if interested, otherwise I could probably find other transportation down there if the tow rig is full.
Thanks Drew

How do you plan to lock the XL7 diff? I'm considering one for my gv if you figure out how to do it :D. Would be nice to have 28 spline axles. I don't trust the 26 spliners being locked. Works good open so far.

I think I've got the Sidekick ready to go... On a rig that has seen so much trail over the years, there is always a lot of wear items to service... I replaced some more first gen 'johnny joints', fixed the air pump, air locker, packed, greased, serviced, and cleaned... We're ready! :)
...and
We are pleased to announce that we'll be leading some of the trails during 'Zukfari with the ARB equipped Suzuki Equator. Should be a blast! This'll be a cool new experience and we plan to take it out and see just how well it can do. With the factory locker, suspension mods, sliders, and gearing, I think it'll do quite well. We'll also have it on display at the Dinner/Raffle.

But "won at a raffle" is so much better. And think of all the tickets you could sell, I would buy at least a couple, one for me and one for Peggy (she would like to win it).
-
Well im locked front and rear as of tonight!
-
Need to do list:
install 3/16" skid pans - still waiting on one piece
install limiting straps
install strut braces
Modify hood to fit
Going to have to run with the beat up hood, the rest is done.
Installed an ARB in the rear, now have it in both ends. Have to say driving with an open rear end is a lot better than the ez locker.
Installing new larger radiator today. Then hit the road tomorrow.
-
Got one slider installed, now to start the passenger side tonight.
Heading out Sat morning and flat towing the Samurai all the way from Tulsa, OK to Moab. I should be there by Sunday afternoon and I will be camping out at Slickrock Campground.

Good looking slider. Is that home built? If you get there early enough on Sunday and are up to it, come join us/Mike for the Moab Rim trail. It'll be a hoot!

New radiator was a lot of work. It will now idle at 185, should be good to go. Start pushed to early tomorrow morning. Will be a nice easy drive going down to Idaho then through eastern Nevada, to Moab on Saturday.

Nah, it's an old Shrockworks set that I've had for 6 year or so. Just now installing them. ::)
I don't think I will be there until the afternoon on Sunday. Not going to try to push it, just take a leisurely drive as I will be towing my Samurai with a 1993 Ford w/270k miles on it. :o The old straight six and 5-speed manual. Not a lot of power, but it pulls the Samurai well at 60-65mph.

I like those old 300 straight sixes. One of the best engines Ford ever made... IMO.
Yeah, it's a good idea not to push it too hard. There's plenty of trail riding opportunities during the whole week.

Weve been stranded in ocallala nebraska for the last 16 hours because a blizzard has come through and the hwy patrol has closed the roads. I thought it was april?
-
That sucks you are stuck there, at least you got caught up on sleep.
I'm heading out this morning late, going to my brothers a little north of
St. George and then hitting it again tomorrow, hoping to get off in time
to make the Moab Brewpub for the meet and greet.
My trucklet is in pieces but this year looked like it was going to be too
much fun to pass up, lots of ZW members that I haven't seen in years
like you Mike, and what I think are new members showing up for the
first time to Zukfari is I think going to make this a year to remember.

Having a great time in the Suzuki Equator... We ran Gold Bar Rim and part of Rusty Nail and it's working really well...

Hey Gil - Yeah, I do love the Equator! It did a lot more than I thought it would and is very comfortable. The factory rear locker really helped out on every trail.
You know... your neighborhood Suzuki dealer has these on their lot AND ARB sells all the goodies that are on it for a bolt on adventure machine.

It was great to meet you and Travis. Funny how we work probably 30 miles apart but traveled 2,000 miles to finally meet up. Let's go do a trail ride soon.

Andy, Glad to see that Warn is still making their winches in the USA-even the new economy line.
I had a lot of fun with the Zukiworld crowd too. :)

OK, you slackers have been home for a few days now.... Where are the pics?
Zig
-
Hey, give us a break! When we get back we have to do 2 weeks worth of work in 1 week to catch up. OK here's a few pix.
-
On Tuesday we went with our friend Stan who drives a Dodge 6X6 (look in the background of the arch picture) and explored some caves, mines, and mining shacks about 30 miles out of town on hwy 128.

Hahaha... My "neighborhood Suzuki dealer" is about 300 miles north. In my price range, I'll have to settle for something with a few (tens of ) thousand miles more. Unless, of course, you decide to let me be the party responsible for disposal of yours?

Thanks, Co-pilot deserves most of credit as I was TOO Busy enjoying the ride. I have stitch together a Video of the Poison Spider-Golden Spike-Gold Rim run. And then there is the CLUSTER f**** where everything didn't work on Moab Rim. Thanks to ZW group I got to the top, but should have been pushed over the edge then, cause they had to drag me back down. Even the Co-Pilot stopped taking videos of the Non-event.

ZUKIWORLD Online - 2011 Zukiworld 'Zukfari (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0lioUiHITE#ws)
Thanks to DonkeyWorx (Bigzook) for helping with the editing.

Great video editing DonkeyWorx! I took lots of those videos but haven't even taken the time to sit down and watch them all. They are way better when nicely edited and put to music! :)
-
A lot of people were wondering what exactly I did to my truck on Top of the World trail. I'm sure that I did it on a previous trail and it just broke the rest of the way on Top of the World. So the left rear axle shaft twisted and then snapped, the busted end knocked the keeper off of the bearing adjuster, the adjuster backed off and the back lash went from about .008" to about 1/2" the pinion gear started jumping on the ring gear thrashing both (keep in mind these are the ultra rare 5.62:1 gears) and somewhere along the line all the pins in my locker snapped in half. Basically the whole rear axle is junk. I was so disgusted that I went and bought a pair of Toyota axles, and with any luck I'll be running those next year.
-
Ouch!
-
Thats a nice new paint job Eric, like the wheels too. And am I seein double or is Mike's hair shorter?

Thanks Zig - you must be talking about the video on the front page of my youtube page. :) That was a close one! Good old Sami stayed rubber-side down though!
The Moab videos are in the recently uploaded section on the right...
-
Yea, that's the one I was talking about... So how did you like Moab on the bikes. I had a blast when I flew out there and rented some....
Zig
-
Moab on bikes was amazing. Sure, I missed having a cup-holder, and a big comfy seat, and snacks within reach at all times (like in a 4x4 rig). But everything else made up for it. You can really make time on bikes and see so much more. About the 3rd day of riding, your body has gotten over the soarness and pain from the first 2 days, and is ready for trail-battle! :) You actually get less thrown around on the bikes than in rigs, since you're on 2 tires, can stand up, and can really pick any line... You only need like a 4" pathway! It's amazing what you can ride up. I tackled way more than I thought I'd be able to.
I hope that I am able to drag my bike along anytime I go back... It was just too dang much fun!
-
Another fine video release by the folks at DonkeyWorx.

who owns this zuk??? the yellow one want the specs of the front suspension mod look like frame drop and the wheel base looks odd ????? people want to know ....
-
The yellow one is a two-door body on a 4-door frame. Not sure of all the suspension mods though. I was behind it on Hell's Revenge and it did the trail pretty darn well.
-
It's a frame dropped 2nd gen chassis with the 1st gen body on top.

Eric clearly knows more about it than I do. Now that I think about it, I do remember it had the 2nd Gen rear bumper with the spare cutout.

It worked really well! He put it all together a couple months before leaving for Moab 8).

I'm posting this for him as he is down in Reno for the desert racing. He finished this Moab video just before leaving.

I met up with a group doing Poison Spider, Golden Spike & Gold Rim trails that was led by another Tracker. He had a stock 1.6 8v, with 33x12.5x15, an automatic, locked on both ends, 4 door springs, cutout wheel wells modified with a hammer.
