Hi all, I am new to the forum. Just bought a 1987 Samurai for a good deal and it has a whine in the tranny. It does it through all the gears except 4th. 5th is the worst. Guess I am looking for a rebuild huh? Any ideas, tricks, suggestions and or best places to buy parts.
Thanks

First thing I would do is change the fluid. No telling how long it has been. Check for metal in the oil that you drained and go from there. Jim

It sounds like the bearings are on the way out, if new gear fluid doesn't hide the problem you will need to rebuild your 5 speed transmission.

Thanks, will do. Sorry it took so long to get back, I was having problems with the web site last few days.

Very typical symptoms of the bearings getting worn in the tranny. You can replace the oil and live with the whine (some guys run the trannys 1000's of miles with whining trannys), or you can replace or rebuild the tranny.

Well, whenever I get wine in the tranny, I just add some cheese & let it ferment, it usually comes out okay...
:( ;D >:D :sleepy: ::)
Sorry, I hada :angel:

Besides he never even said if it was white or red wine! :laugh:

Usually a nice hearty burgundy will whine less. :laugh:

For some reason the red wine that comes out of my transmission always taste funny...

When it tastes funny try mixing it with some ginger ale!
