Title: Sidekick- Installed rock monster t-case gears, now have shift shaft trouble
Post by: goodyz on January 10, 2011, 10:38:39 PM
Installed rock monster gears and removed shift shaft interlock ball and re-assembled. I put the stock shifter back in and it worked fine. I got a twin stick, removed the spring and ball for the HI/LOW shaft, moved the HI/LOW shaft forward 1 click so it's notch is straight across from the 2/4 notch and dropped the twin stick in. Now the 2/4 shaft moves fine but the HI/LOW shaft won't budge??? What did I do? I tried to search several times but all I kept getting was a "database error" message. I also got a front locker from trail tough, is it possible to install the carrier without having to re-set up the backlash for the R & P. Possibly marking the location of all the parts (bearing adjuster lock plates) then re-assembling?

this helped me install my locker, although i did end up "adjusting to feel" at the end.

i can't remember(frequently these days) removing more than the ball between the shift rods for my twin stick.
i will look thru my paperwork for a reference i had used- it was a few years back.

sorry- can't find the link i used as reference re:shift rods.

Hey thanks a lot! That is a very nice write up with really good pics and everything. Since I am changing the carrier I decided to break out the dial indicator and set it up according to the factory service manual. Also thanks to Wildgoody I found the shift shaft problem too. I removed the spring and ball from the 2/4 shaft but I didn't know about the pin. There are 3 little boogers that gotta come outta there!
