I just scored this 1986 sammi and I've noticed two things that concern me:
1st. The egr valve is leaking oil(enough to cover the undercarriage). What can i do to repair this???
2nd. The radiator overflow is always leaking after a drive from the small tube on top. What can I do about this???
Any help would be awesome

1. Are you SURE that you are looking at the EGR valve? If this is actually a SJ413 (Samurai) the fuel pump is located in the general vicinity of of the EGR valve and can leak oil out of the breather tube that does not have a hose on it when the pump's diaphram is broken ( a very BAD thing...)
I believe that the EGR Valve circulates exhaust gas. Iit might be exposed to oil if the the Positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve is not working... I could be wrong on this, though.
2. That tube should be connected to an overflow container
For more info on both subjects, try downloading the Samurai Factory Service Manual (FSM) at Ack's FAQ. See the link to Ack's FAQ in my signature, below. Do a search and use FSM as a search string.
You'll also find an interesting write-up on the mechanical fuel pump by doing a search for fuel pump.
I hope that this helps!

my mistake it is definetly 100% the fuel pump. So I should replace the diaphram???
also on the radiator issue: its the small breather lookin hose that the radiator fluid is leakin from... should i just cap it off???
Thanx a ton

dont just cap it off. you might just need a simple new rad cap or it could be more serious like a bad head gasket charging the cooling system.
and I'm pretty sure you will have to replace the whole fuel pump (easy and inexpensive)

The whole fuel pump has to be replaced.
Do you have a reservoir for the radiator? The hose that comes from the radiator (from below the radiator cap), runs to the reservoir cap and into the reservoir. If all those pieces are in place, then the system shouldn't leak.

Fuel pump ordered... I have the radiator and reservoir the small tube coming off the reservoir i think its a breather is the tube that is leaking fluid. I just cant figure out why. I'm gonna change the rad cap (thx Jluck) and hope that does it.
Any other ideas are killer

The radiator has an overflow tube on the side of the filler neck. The tube runs to a resevoir on, I believe, the passenger-side fender where a coolant overflow bottle should be mounted.
The ideas of the system is that, when cooling system pressure rises to a predetermind point, the radiator cap's internal pressure valve releases excess coolant into the overflow bottle. As the engine cools, the coolant in the bottle is sucked back into the radiator. Under normal conditions, you fill the cooling system via the overflow bottle.
It is hard to understand what the problem that you have is.
Is the hose broken and the excess fluid is pouring out onto the ground? Is radiator cap not sealing properly? Are you losing coolant and you don't know where it is going?
Replacing the radiator cap with a factory-spec replacement may be the solution.
Otherwise, we need a bit more info. to help you...

I had the same problem with the overflow tank when I picked up my samurai and found when I turned the cap around and connected the hose on the other side it didnt blow coolant out.

thax for all the info... i bought a new cap and it seems to have fixed the issue.
thx again,
