hello everybody from montreal quebec
i need an info.
here is my little dillem.
i got a 1995 kick with the 3 speed automatique tranny and 4.30 of gear
i want to swap those diff gear because i am going to swap my tire for 235/75/15 or 31/10.5/15 or 6.5r16xlm.
i have those tire and rims at home but don t really know what gear to use.
i can put the 4.62 that i have or the 5.38 that sleep in my shed but i want to keep my kick road frendly.
can you tell me what gear to put with each of those tire set please.
if it s the 5.13 i need it s easy for me to have it(full of parts over here for those truck)
thanks for answer.
how do we calculate those ratio.

The 4.62 should work well with the 235 tires, the 5.125 will work well with a 31 or 32. You may lose a bit at highway speeds with the 31's because the torque converter lock up doesn't like big tires and most likely will not lock, adding about 400 rpm to your normal cruising speed.
I have the same year and style as yours, 95 Geo Tracker 3 speed auto with 5.125 gears. I run 32 x 11.50 BFG AT KO tires and sometimes wish I would have went with the 4.62's for better highway rpm.

thanks dude for the speedy answer ;D

I run 235/75/15s on my daily diriver 95 3 speed with the stock 4.30 gears and it is just fine.
For the 31s, if you're gonna off road, go 5.12s at least. Like BentPart mentions, its gonna run your RPMs up on the highway but its bearable.

no real off road for that truck.
it s only for fishing that means some light off roading to the nearest river,camping...
and i will haul a 4x8 trailer that ganna be convert into a mini camper(for two).
rest of the time will be highway, small road...
here is my futur fishing truck:

plus a real snorkel(safari) and may be beadlock to be able to remove some air when i m into sand!
but this is for later, lots later.

You are going to want 5.12s if you go with your dream truck

i have a set of 5.38 that i am not using at this moment is it too much with 235 or 30" for highway?
may be i can upgrade to 31"
and is 3" body lift and 2" susp lift is enough to clear 31?
thank s for the answer.

5.38's are way to much. I'll be a nice guy and trade you for my 5.12's. I'll even pay for shipping, that is how nice of a guy I am. :D
The 2x3 lift is enough to clear 31" tires, I have ran with a couple vehicles with that setup. Depending on the tires a 2" lift alone will clear a set of 30x9.5" tires.
The 5.38 gears should be just fine with 30" tires, may be a bit low for 235/75 R15's but that just means you don't go quite as fast on the highway.

Sure, they would be nice to have in the DD or Project Trouble. You don't see to many of the 8 valve 4 doors these days.
