Each time we go to Moab we're sure to hit some of our favorite trails but we also always like to run a couple of new to us trails when we're there as well... So, we're looking for input. What is your favorite trail in Moab and why? What trail would you send someone on if they had never been to Moab before?
Thanks, Eric

I like the scenic trails like Hell's Revenge >:D over the more technical trails like Prichett Canyon :o.
I think we ought to have the scenic trails early in the week and the more techincal ones later. That way any carnage will hopefully be postponed until the end of the week.

I too like those trails... The only problem with running Prichett late in the week is it becomes a parking lot but I do see what you're saying. It'd be a drag to break right away and not be able to get 'er back together for the rest of the week.

I really enjoyed riding Hells Revenge on my first day of group riding.... after a couple of days playing on easier trails, that made me realize what my Kick could do out there giving me MUCH more confidence for the rest of the week....

How about Hell's Revenge on Tues and Pritchett on Thurs or Friday?

I've always felt that Hell's Revenge is the trail that most typifies Moab. I consider it imperative that whenever I go to Moab I run it, and always tell friends when they go to Moab they have to run HR. It has all the steep slickrock, scenery, off camber, and technical optionals to make anybody appreciate what Moab has to offer that is different than most other name brand trail systems. (Of course... St. George has a fair amount of similar terrain, also. :)

Yeah, one year I was on an EJS run up Pritchett and blew the 4:1 tcase output shaft on the first ledge up. I had to park the Jeep in the truck and spend the rest of EJS as a passenger. Argh!
Come to think of it, that was the last time I ran Pritchett. :o

Yeah, I bent my rear axle housing on Prichett Canyon and had to drive back thru all obstacles and winched out. The next day it snowed so the whole week was a wash.

Thursday is one of the few days the Red Rock 4 Wheelers aren't using the trail. As to why it's a traffic jam every year. My toyota friends and I usally run it every year on Thursday. Don't think I will be joining them this year if they end up doing it. It's not worth it.
As for favorite trails, It will have to be Fins N' Things and Rusty Nail. Pritchett is on the list, but not during the safari.

Yeah, I was just talking with one of the guys today about which renegade runs we want to take, and I said "I like Pritchett and Golden Spike, but they are sooooo much more fun not during safari. We decided to go with some of the "other" trails that don't get all the traffic, like Rusty Nail, Metal Masher, and Rose Garden Hill. On Thursday Pritchett will have all the renegades in town on it. Not worth the pain.

Hells revenge, Prichett ,Golden spike ,and rim are all a must for me.

x2 for Golden Spike, Hells Revenge and Moab Rim.
We usually run Fins 'n Things at night to be adventurous...
We'll be on dual sports this year and hoping to see some new stuff.
Never tried slickrock on a bike, so it will be a new experience.

It's a blast.... You will be shocked at how much distance you can cover in a day... and we were doing it on governed rentals...

Davey and I will be on 200's, so that is kind of like being governed .

I was impressed with your Suzuki DR200 and I'm thinking of getting one myself. How much do they usually go for used?

Hey there~
I think you are talking about the Yamaha TW200, not the taller Suzuki DRZ400?
Well, the TW200 was the shorter, fat-tire bike. I really enojyed riding it on the trails! You can get them used for anywhere from $1000-$2500K, depending on year and condition. Brand new they are ~$3800. They haven't changed much throughout production: 1987 to current.
Here's a good website for more info:

Ok, I couldn't remember which was which. I'm just looking at something in the 200cc range. I'll probably look at all of them starting out-just find a bike in decent shape to get me started. It's been over 20 years since I rode a bike offroad and that was a little 125cc when I was 14 or so. From there I went to a Samurai when I was 15 and haven't really looked back since.
Still I think a small bike would be fun and they allow you to run all the ORV trails that Samurais can fit on, but aren't allowed to run.
-
Many friends here in Oregon are getting plated (street-legal) dirt bikes as well, for the same reasons... More places to ride where the 4x4's aren't allowed... plus 70mpg is really nice. :)
I think Kane Creek Trail was my favorite in Moab this year!
-
Around OK they are closing a lot of the riding areas to 4x4s.
The 4x4s have become a lot larger/etreme in the last few years and many of these people aren't happy with the existing trails (not extreme enough or wide enough) so then they start making their own trails by cutting down trees or driving up gulches which dramatically increases erosion. They are about to close the nearby ORV park (Camp Gruber) for such reasons. >:(
The Kane Creek picture looks cool too. :) Looks like it would be a fun place indeed.

I have a TW 200 also. They are a great bike to learn on. This is a pic from Fins n' Things, it was my favorite trail.
-
Fins n Things was fun. I ran it on Friday and it was the very first trail I ran at Moab back in 2000. Kinda like Hell's Revenge lite.

You know, I've never ran that trail but want too... This year, we did Behind the Rocks for the first time and I enjoyed that trail... There are some pretty hard obsticles and some nice high speed sand too... Nice mix.
