we run vhf, same idea, anyway i bolted mine to the pass side of the center consol, just had to make sure i put it up far enough that the front seat could still move forward.....that was the best spot i found for mine.

Looks great tucked in under the stereo, was the instal difficult?

Anyone else care to share photo's of their CB set ups? I'm looking for inspiration  ;D

Thanks!  It wasnt too hard to install, but I did get lucky on the size of this particular cb.  (cobra 18 wxst)  It has a front mount speaker which made it ideal for in dash mounting.  If you use an external speaker I suppose any cb could be mounted this way.  It was such a tight fit between the radio and brace below that I didnt need to bolt it in.  Plus when I trimmed the center console bezel, it really holds it in tight.  The hardest part of the install was getting the antenna cable to work.  I had to use a 90 degree adapter to keep the cb from sticking out another 2 inches.  It was hitting the heater box.  I made a brace to go across my roof racks that holds my antenna.  I will post pics of that later.

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics, the antenna on the cross bar is for the cb.  The  smaller whip is for my police scanner!

Yes... CB and Ham.

For the Ham antenna, it's easy, just get a hood lip mount for your antenna.

For the CB antenna, I used the Firestik universal hood mount. It was great, fully adjustable for the slope angle on the hood. Can't run anything gigantic up there though with the flimsy metal. IE: no 102's on the hood.  :P I'm planning to weld a mount for a 102 on the spare tire carrier, and will probably run an antenna switcher of some kind so when I'm out on the street I can still use the little mud duck fiberglass antenna, and still get in the garage.

Inside, I'm running the ham radio similar to how an above post is doing it. I have an aftermarket stereo, so I got the universal cover plate. My radio has a removable faceplate so it's screwed to the cover. The radio itself along with an external speaker are under the passenger seat.

My CB is mounted to the back of the center console... and that box behind it helps it push 4 watts. Yep.

Very cool setup.  I see you have your ham mounted in the dash like I mounted my cb.  Looks very clean!

I`m looking to set up my CB this weekend and I've got an embarrassing question...

Where'd y'all run your wiring? I had a quick look tonight and I can't see any place where i could easily run my antenna cable from under the hood through to the cabin.... ???

It depends on where you are mounting your antenna

Well I guess. But if there was a good spot to get through the firewall I'd make it work regardless of where my antenna's mounted.

It wouldn't make sense to run the cable through the firewall if your antennas are located on the roof.  If you are putting it on the edges of the hood, then ya the firewall would be my choice.

Yeah, should have mentioned I was mounting at the side of the hood. Well at least i was planning on. Kinda hard if you can't find somewhere to run your cable. God i hate wiring...

One of the problems with the firewall, is that the connectors are so large for the antenna. If you felt comfortable cutting the end off and crimping a new one on, it would be a breeze. Heck, I've got a spare end I would give ya Dan. There is an electrical boot under the glove box that has enough room to sneak a cable thru.  What i do is push a phillips screw driver thru the area between the edge of the boot and where the loom comes through.

Then just chase the cable back thru as you remove the screw driver. Might be a two person job!

Thanks for the tip!

I will try and find this boot you speak of. I don't have too much of a problem cutting the end off, could I just use a regular butt connector to re-attach it??

I wouldnt just splice together with a regular crimp because you have two connections inside.  I would take the very end of the cable off and then crimp one of these on.

here is a pic of where I routed my amp wiring thru the firewall.  It is located just below and to the right of the battery tray as u are looking at the battery.

I'll try and take some tomorrow.

I ended up finding a large rectangular rubber boot just below and inboard of the battery. With an exacto knife I cut a slit in it and away I went. So easy.   8)

I'll snap some photos of the boot and of the antenna bracket I made.
