Title: Keyless Entry?
Post by: tuesdaysgone on January 21, 2011, 10:32:15 PM
Hi all, I've just become the new owner of a 96 sidekick sport jlx.  It has central locking,  is it supposed to have keyless entry?

The guy who sold it to me gave me basic keys to the vehicle but no key fob,  he couldn't speak much English so I don't know if the vehicle came with one from new, any ideas?

You know, I'm not really sure.  I know it's pretty easy to install remote locking.  I would give your local Suzuki dealership a call with your VIN number in hand, if it had keyless entry they should be able to order you a new FOB.

If it doesn't just pick up a kit from ebay and wire it into your locks.  :)

Yep.  That is what I did to one of my 4 doors with power locks.  Worked great and was about $35, IIRC.  Only took like 30 minutes to install it....and most of that was looking for the wire in the kickpanel to splice into.

From what I remember, the factory key fob (dark gray case with a green pushbutton), locks the doors and activates the alarm when you push the button.  When you push it again, it unlocks the doors and disables the alarm.  That is all it does, IIRC.

I've not been to a dealer yet, but i've seen suzuki key fobs on ebay that only list suzukis from 1998 onwards.
