Title: TT Missing Link Question
Post by: onyx on January 22, 2011, 09:26:07 AM
I'm sure this has been dealt with before but I did search before asking !! I have installed a missing link kit on my 88 Sam with a trackick power steering box my problem is this.... I set the drag link and indexed the pitman up on the hoist everything fully extended. WELL when I droped it down the steering wheel made 2 complete rotations to stay centered once on the ground (ride hight) and I can only turn one way due to this. So now I will re index it at ride hight but I expect I will loose steering when flexing no???  So I'm thinking droped pitman and maybe a Z link. But why wouldnt this come with $1500.00 kit if needed ??? I would call TT but it's the weekend so no luck. Any help would be appreciated

Are you running a high steer setup?

If so what you need isn't a pitman arm but a pan-hard bar.  It may not work very will with the missing link setup though, a club member ended up switching to Hydro assist for just that reason.

So you put on a lift kit and produced gobs of flex, along with installing steering at fully extended suspension travel.  Are they stock yj  springs you using? You may need a dropped pitman arm, or a zlink, like you thought. Let me know, I have either or.

Hi And Thanks for the imput.... Yes I'm running stock YJ springs. I have it working ok after re indexing at ride hight. I still know that I'm loosing steering when droping over a ledge and extending both sides of the ML together. I know a droped pitman or a Z link would improve this and think it should have come with the kit but thats my opinion....

The proper fix for being able to turn while at full flex is a hydro assist setup.  Sad but true.
