Just got it finished last week and have been driving it on my 91 mile commute. There are no shackles- ther rear of the spring slides in a track- better clearance and approach. I think they are going to offer the kit either way. Rides good, can't wait to get to Moab. Pics are with 235's but there is room for more.
-
looks good. how about some specs? type of springs (app./lift) is the kit available to gen-pop soon? any idea on pricing etc...more more more.....
-
Kit uses Trail Gear lift springs from rear of sammy and the sammy axle with spacers. Easily swapped to Toy axles. Has shock hoops, shocks, frame gussets and all the steering (which is working great). I think the kits are a little different depending on the year and 2 or 4 doors. The frame horns change between years and bodies. I don't know what the final price will be but I do know the parts that I bought from them that they are using for the kit are not very expensive and they are working well. Here is a pic of the rear spring slider.
-
Nice, those tires look bigger than 235's. 91 mile commute!? hope that's round trip!
-
Is this just in the R&D stage right now? Because I did not see it anywhere on their site
-
If they use 3" lift sammy rear springs in the front. How do they lift the rear? Is that a sprung under front leaf setup?
-
why slider and not a shackle?? It looks like it should be a simple setup, so it should be affordable.

Yeah that photo appears to be a spring under setup. Spring over would be much considerably taller.
I see blue bits in the first picture. Probably a calmini kit. Same could be achieved with longer springs with spacers and creating a better upper link setup instead of the balljoint which would be stressed trying to gain 3".
A nice compliment to this lift, to stay cost-effective, would be to combine it with some rear springs from a 4dr? (I think) and coil spacers and somehow beefing up the upper link.
-
Blue bits? I must be color blind, I dont see any blue anything.
-
Look at the first pic, the rear lower control arm appears to be blue.
-
I did have a 3" Calmini kit on this tracker when I did the front swap. The rear still has the Calmini parts and sits about one inch lower than the front. I will be building a four link rear when I swap to Toy axles but for now it will probably just keep the blue parts. The kit has been used on my rig and another 4 door at the Low Range shop. I don't work for them but I know the 4 door has been wheeling pretty hard and I've got over 600 miles on mine. I know all the parts are available and I think they are just testing durability. There were a few changes made early on and I am really happy with the kit. You would have to call them to see when the whole kit is available. You can get shackles if you want, I liked the sliders because they don't hang down so low under the frame in the rear and with no shackles on the front, the approach angle to obstacles is much better. I am a pretty serious rock crawler and have geared the kit towards that.
-
I guess I get the idea of sliders, but I have never seen them before. is it bolted on or welded?
-
I guess on a rockcrawler in a dry state would prefer the slider setup. But the bearings in the slider submerged in mud and water, wont last long.
-
Yes, about that slider shackle, how does it work? As flexmonger mentioned, it has some kind of a bearing or something? I figure it's not metal on metal just sliding, so what does it have?
Because yes, a shackle in the rear would make it MUCH taller, or else you'd have to put it up front
-

Buddy you have great vision! If it wasn't for that tiny bit of light hitting it I'd barley make out the blue.
-
anyways let's see some pics of how it flexes.
"pics or it didn't happen" ;D
-
I didnt figure there is even a bearing in the slider. maybe some polyurethane the spring rids on
-
The sliders are welded to the frame. There are 2 sealed bearings, one on each side of the spring eye. They are easily replaced if needed. Low Range has been using them on some of their samurais for a while but this is the first use for a swap kit. I have had the rig on the ramp and it flexes good. It is being held back by the rear. I just got some creeper joints that will be installed on the axle end of the rear Calmini lower control arms- this should help quite a bit. Low Range is also developing some rear coil springs to go with the kit for those who want both front and rear. I will try to get some flex pics up after the control arm mod but it might be a while before I get them on.
-
Here is another pic of the slider. The front kit gave me another 1 inch of wheelbase- I'll take all I can get.
-
do those weld on fish plate come with the kit?
-
Low Range felt, as did I, that the frame needed some reinforcing there. I think they will include the frame reinforcements with the kit.

Is there instruction on locating the slider for the springs used?
If you locate it too far forward, the spring eye is in the back of the slider and up-travel could be limited and the shock cover be over extended on droop.
If you locate it too far forward, the spring eye is in the front of the slider and providing limited droop and no restriction on up-travel.

all you need to do is figure out how much the spring will stretch when there is no arc. after you know that bolt the spring to the front and see where the rear eye is a just add the stretch factor in might be 2-4'' and put the slider so it just allows for the stretch and then the rest of the slider will be used for normal ride and for the droop on the spring. I figure there should be some good instructions with the kit, but i know from experience not everything has instructions.

found it i like it got to have mine done asap ready for playing so yea more picswant to see what im up agaist thanks agian for your time :D
-
So what about their steering set up? i know they make one for SASing a kick with a samurai axle. LEts see pictures of that!
-
some action shots
-
Sure seems to work! ; ;D
-
Any updates on this kit? Is it something that low range is actually considering putting together and selling as a kit?
-
im curious too.
-
Points to know:
What are they doing for steering linkage?
Do they have a rear lift figured out yet?
Front driveline, will it need to be a custom one or will a spacer be sufficient?
What size wheel spacers are necessary to match the rear track width?
-
Low Range has all the parts for the kit but you will have to call them, I don't work for them. I have a couple thousand miles on the kit and it is still working fine. I do know they are having their own springs made for the rear and have made their own upper 3rd link and lower links. They may be waiting to finish testing the rear springs before they list the kit, just a guess, but I know they have it all there. I used 1.5" spacers for the front axle and didn't need a slip yoke eliminator for the driveshaft.
-
BTT for those that HAVE NOT seen this yet. Interesting, very interesting...
-
anyone have updates on this kit? I might just sell my 5.62's and swap to 5.12's to fund this swap.
-
I know of a few people waiting on this kits release. I suppose someone should call 'em
-
I just sent sean a message. Crossing my fingers this has worked out and will come out soon. Ive been watching the calmini kits but waiting for something alittle cheaper.
-
I know of one other manufacturer that has a prototype front and rear leaf spring kit in the works but don't know if will ever materialise or not......whats your thoughts ebewley? HINT,HINT ,POKE,POKE.
I was offered one of the few prototypes and passed on it (DOH!)
-
you passes on it? :-\ can you mention who this other manufacturer is? If anyone wants to put a prototype on my vehicle im game. ;D

yea, there was only a few made and at that time the price target was pretty high for a leaf spring setup I thought. I was (am still) wanting the trail-slayer.I don't want to ruffle any feathers by mentioning the mfgr. Hopefully something will happen soon with it though or maybe the prototype project kick could be passed on..... ;) ;)
-
I would think if wanted leafs front and rear that you would just buy a Samurai. ???
The leafs up front would be an economical alternative to a linked front though.

Yep, my thoughts were similar (other than having a 4 door suv). But if the leaf kit worked well and was much cheaper than a trailslayer i would go for it.
-
I talked to low range today. "1-2 months out" (that usually means 3-6 or 6-99 months out). still in R&D and waiting on a couple parts. no estimated price yet.
-
thanks for the update. lets hope it comes out soon and is fairly inexpensive compared to the calmini kit.
-
How are these things holding up
Has this got slip yoke eliminator
How does it go with the slip box on the rear
Do u run in to problems with tire and firewall clearance under compression
I would like to do this but with the box at the front
I think a rear kick diff with samuri ends
Double tuffs and custom axels

I saw the Calmini SAS kit this last week in Moab, it's a pretty nice setup. 8" travel front shocks and mostly bolt on, even uses a stock drive-line so you don't need to convert it to flanges. I really liked the braces for the strut towers. I would look into their kit.
