I have an opportunity to buy a stock 96 2door tracker with the 1.6 and a 5-speed. Someone was using it as a woods beater, so I can get it for $150. The only reason I'll consider it is if it has 5.13 gears. (Because I want to swap them into my 03 4door 2.0 Tracker.) How do I tell what gears it has? I did some searching but found conflicting information. So does a 96 2dr 1.6 5-speed have the 5.13 gears? Does it have an RPO code sticker like the later Chevy Trackers that will tell me?

A 5-speed Tracker should have the 5.12 gear sets in it. Are you "tracking" on the differences between the front diff in your 2003 (with the air actuator built in) and the one you will have from the '96?
There should be some other parts that are salvageable from it that you could part out and sell to guys here on the forum and recoup some of your money plus scrap out the remainder of the truck for dollars as well. Your currentTracker should have either the 4.62 (for a 5 spd) or 4.88 (if auto tranny). Someone on the forum here might want to purchase your front gears from your current Tracker for their Sammy axle upgrade.

Thanks, but I just found out it's already sold. :( Story of my life....day late and a dollar short.
I still want to do this at some point. I have the auto with 4.88's. I only went up one tire size to a 215/75/15 and could notice a significant loss in power and gas mileage. There's no way the stock gearing can handle a 235/75 (which is what I would rather run). I'm new to Suzukis, so I'm still a little fuzzy on exacty what I need. I was under the impression any 96-98 3rd member would swap into my 03 rears. But maybe it's not that simple?

I put 5.12's from a 96 5spd tracker. The rear dropped in, the front I had to swap the gears out, and reset them up.
This is an 02 Grand Vitara 5spd. It came stock with 4.30's, I put 30" tires on it, 4.88's would have been close to stock. I wanted a little extra gearing :D.

I can't believe what i'm reading here.. you are getting a 2 door tracker, in working condition for $150!! Unbelievable, here in Trinidad, I have to pay over $2000TTD or ~$300USD just for the rear banjo.. >:(
and a working vehicle of similar spec starts at $40,000TTD.. anyone want to do the conversion...

Trust me Trini - you got it easy ;)
